Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Live Action\u2019s Founder and President, Lila Rose, addressed the crowd gathered at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., for National Celebrate Life Day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAmerica is like a beautiful song,\u201d Rose began. \u201cOur song has dynamics \u2013 highs and lows. It has the highs of our founding promise of all of us being created equal under the law with the inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. But our song, our American song, also has tragic lows.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rose noted the Supreme Court\u2019s infamous decision in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/dred-scott-v-sandford\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dred Scott v. Sandford<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which denied citizenship to the enslaved, as one of America\u2019s lows. That decision served to bring the nation one step closer to the Civil War, and was overturned by the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/13th-amendment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">13th<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.archives.gov\/milestone-documents\/14th-amendment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14th<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe 14th Amendment is one of the most beautiful notes in our national song,\u201d Rose continued, quoting the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/constitution\/amendmentxiv\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">text<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Amendment, which extends the right of equal protection of the law to all persons living within the United States. Rose noted that preborn persons are entitled to these same rights, though they are currently being denied such protection on the federal level.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe demand equal protection for preborn children,\u201d Rose declared, adding:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These protections do not require a new constitutional amendment. Those protections already exist in our constitution at this very moment. Right now in America, abortion is unconstitutional. It is illegal. It violates our nation&#8217;s highest law.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/target-petition\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=lan_website&amp;utm_content=target_petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-292702\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Target petition\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-768x198.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-500x129.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calling attention to the fact that a new, genetically distinct life is created at the moment of fertilization, Rose said: \u201cThese tiny lives possess incredible potential and should be celebrated and protected. It is a tragic contradiction that while our society celebrates advancements in prenatal care and technology, we simultaneously deny \u2026 the personhood and rights of these very same children.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rose continued:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protecting the rights of the preborn is not a matter \u2026 of politics or ideology\u2026. Our fight is a matter of justice and human rights. It is about standing up for the voiceless and the defenseless \u2013 those who cannot advocate for themselves. Our society is judged by how we treat the most vulnerable among us.
