The plaintiffs, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/2023\/06\/06\/planned-parenthood-other-abortion-providers-challenge-kansas-anti-abortion-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">include<\/a> the Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood Great Plains, and Hodes and Nauser Women\u2019s Health, have also asked the court to block the recently-passed abortion pill reversal law immediately while their lawsuit proceeds.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcur.org\/2023-06-06\/lawsuit-claims-several-old-and-new-kansas-abortion-restrictions-are-unconstitutional\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KCUR<\/a>, the lawsuit claims that four of the state&#8217;s laws are unconstitutional, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A law requiring abortionists to provide state-mandated counseling prior to the abortion<\/li>\n<li>A law implementing a 24-hour waiting period after the woman receives that counseling<\/li>\n<li>A law mandating a 30-minute waiting period in between the time a woman meets with the abortionist and the abortionist starts the procedure<\/li>\n<li>A law mandating that women must receive information about abortion pill reversal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The abortion pill reversal law was passed in April, after lawmakers <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kansas-legislators-override-three-vetoes-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overrode a veto<\/a> from Governor Laura Kelly. It is scheduled to go into effect on July 1.<\/p>\n<p>In their lawsuit, the plaintiffs argued that a mandatory waiting period is burdensome to women.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt singles out abortion care for medically unnecessary additional regulation that delays and impedes access to abortion, stigmatizes and demeans people seeking abortion and perpetrates the discriminatory view that pregnant people are uniquely in need of the State\u2019s paternalistic intervention into their health care and family planning decisions,\u201d the lawsuit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kctv5.com\/2023\/06\/06\/planned-parenthood-other-abortion-providers-challenge-kansas-anti-abortion-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reads<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood said that the 24-hour waiting period hurts business, as it affects women who come for abortion from out of state.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/target-petition\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=lan_website&amp;utm_content=target_petition\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-292702\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Target petition\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-768x198.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized-500x129.jpg 500w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/LA23MAY_TargetPetition_resized.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It has not had the burdensome effect as it has today as, more and more, our patients are driving so many hours,&#8221; Emily Wales, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Great Plains, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjonline.com\/story\/news\/healthcare\/2023\/06\/06\/kansas-abortion-providers-challenge-restrictions-as-unconstitutional\/70293992007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. &#8220;It is not something that happens on occasion.
