She&#8217;s glad she didn&#8217;t listen."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A mom in Australia is speaking out about being pressured to have an abortion because her baby was believed to have a disability.<\/p>\n<p>In an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidspot.com.au\/news\/they-said-parts-of-my-baby-were-missing-they-told-me-to-abort\/news-story\/b94fd54dfb0ce9f291f8a56a245fe9b2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interview with Kidspot<\/a>, Jodie said she realized she was pregnant after ending a turbulent relationship. At 39, she had suffered multiple miscarriages, and even though her ex said he refused to be a part of their child&#8217;s life, she made up her mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very intense, confusing time,&#8221; she admitted, but added, \u201cI didn\u2019t think I could ever have a child, so it was now or never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She was resolved to raise the child on her own, but said doctors immediately began pressuring her to have an abortion. \u201cThey said because of my age, my past history as a smoker and other statistics that there was a high risk of Down syndrome,\u201d she said. \u201cThey wanted me to look at abortion then. It infuriated me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then, at <strong>30 weeks<\/strong>, they said there were things &#8220;missing&#8221; from her baby&#8217;s body, such as the septum pellucidum, or membrane in the brain, optic nerves, and the pituitary gland. \u201cThat\u2019s when they said, \u2018We think you need to terminate\u2019,\u201d Jodie recalled. \u201cIt was horrendous. I was spiraling. I lost it. I burst into tears. I couldn\u2019t hear anything after that. I looked up the reality of terminating a child at that gestation, and it destroyed me. I would be induced and give birth to a dead child. I just couldn\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jodie was told that her baby would likely be stillborn.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FWWW1lMrLAE\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Still, Jodie felt that something wasn&#8217;t right. \u201cEverything in me said, \u2018No, this doesn\u2019t make sense,&#8217;\u201d she said. \u201cWhat they were telling me didn\u2019t feel right. I was adamant they were wrong. From that moment on, I stopped doing the \u2018what ifs\u2019 and just kept going.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 40 weeks, she went into labor, and miraculously, her daughter let out a cry. \u201cShe made this little squeak and I just melted,\u201d Jodie said. \u201cThen she cried and I was thinking, \u2018Yes, she\u2019s alive\u2019 in response to all those people who said she wouldn\u2019t make it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not only was her daughter, Jasmine, alive, but the <em>only<\/em> medical issue she had at birth was jaundice. None of the other predicted diagnoses came to fruition. There did end up being some issues later, however.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was asleep and I saw her on the camera spitting out all this mucus and then she started going blue in the lips. So I put her on her tummy and patted her as hard as I could,&#8221; Jodie recalled. Jasmine, it turns out, has suspected spontaneous reflux, leaving her at risk of choking on her mucus at any time. \u201cShe sleeps right next to me with the camera on her 24\/7, but I still don\u2019t sleep much. I can sense when she shakes her arms and legs heavily when it starts to happen because she can\u2019t get a breath. I\u2019m a million percent grateful that I didn\u2019t listen to the doctors. Humans should trust their heart. It speaks words,&#8221; she said. \u201cShe\u2019s so intelligent already. She crawled early and is now on the verge of walking, she sings bits of the ABC song. She\u2019s completely changed my world. I\u2019m a different person and a better version of myself because of her.
