The bill, which passed the state&#8217;s unicameral legislature with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ketv.com\/article\/nebraska-jim-pillen-signs-bill-targeting-abortion-gender-affirming-care\/43963577#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">33-15 vote<\/a>, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ketv.com\/article\/nebraska-jim-pillen-signs-bill-targeting-abortion-gender-affirming-care\/43963577\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> by Governor Jim Pillen on Monday and went into effect immediately.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nebraskalegislature.gov\/bills\/view_bill.php?DocumentID=49961\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LB 574<\/a>, the &#8220;Let Them Grow Act,&#8221; limits abortion to the first trimester, though it does include exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother (though an abortion, which is the direct and intentional killing of a preborn child, is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never medically necessary<\/a>). Today is about celebrating and protecting the unborn, allowing our children to grow. And every human being has a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I look forward to the day when every child is protected from conception &#8230; from elective abortions in the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Planned Parenthood <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1011now.com\/2023\/05\/22\/live-1230pm-gov-pillen-sign-12-week-abortion-ban-trans-youth-care-ban-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke out<\/a> following Pillen&#8217;s signing. \u201cWe are devastated about the cruel and harmful bans signed into law today,\u201d said Ruth Richardson, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood North Central States. \u201cWe will do everything we can to help patients in Nebraska. We will continue offering abortion as allowed in the new law, and we will help patients get connected to the help they need to get to appointments out of state. We are working every day to provide people the health care they need.
