The Rainbow Room<\/span><\/a>, which bills itself as \u201c<\/span>Planned Parenthood\u2019s [sic]<\/span> Keystone’s LGBTQ+ & Allies youth center in Bucks County\u201d Pennsylvania on its <\/span>Facebook page<\/span><\/a>, recently promoted May as \u201cNational Masturbation Month\u201d in an Instagram <\/span>post<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n

The group is targeted at kids and young adults aged 14-21, though it welcomes 12 and 13 year-olds every fourth Wednesday, according to its <\/span>website<\/span><\/a>. It meets at <\/span>Salem United Church of Christ<\/span><\/a> in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, every Wednesday evening. The group is <\/span>taxpayer-funded<\/span><\/a>, having received a $630,000 grant from the State of Pennsylvania in 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Instagram post touted the alleged benefits of masturbation, including stress relief, tension release, and improvement of period cramps. The post also stated that masturbation \u201cis a safe and normal thing that most people do\u201d which \u201chelps you understand your body and your sexual preferences.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to an article on their <\/span>website<\/span><\/a>, National Masturbation Month was invented by a San Francisco-area chain of sex shops called Good Vibrations in 1995 following the firing of then-Surgeon General Dr. Jocelyn Elders. Elders was fired by then-President Bill Clinton after she <\/span>suggested<\/span><\/a> that masturbation \u201cperhaps should be taught\u201d in schools when addressing an AIDS forum. At that time, White House Chief of Staff Leon E. Panetta said the president believed the suggestion was \u201cwrong, and feels that\u2019s not what schools are for.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Promoting masturbation to children is nothing new for Planned Parenthood, which <\/span>partners<\/span><\/a> with the graphic kids\u2019 sex-ed cartoon video sites AMAZE and AMAZE Jr, the latter of which is targeted at children as young as four<\/em>. AMAZE Jr promotes and normalizes masturbation \u2026 so long as it\u2019s private. In one <\/span>video<\/span><\/a>, the adult assures the kids: \u201cYes, it\u2019s okay to touch your clitoris. Keith, it\u2019s okay to touch your penis. \u2026 But it\u2019s best to only do it in private.\u201d Another AMAZE Jr <\/span>video<\/span><\/a> sends the same message.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The AMAZE site, which is targeted at kids aged 10 years and older, continues to promote masturbation, stating in one <\/span>video<\/span><\/a>: \u201cMasturbation can be a way to relieve stress, or learn about yourself, your body, and your feelings\u2026. Masturbation, even a few times a day, does not present a problem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
