{"id":290142,"date":"2023-05-02T10:37:57","date_gmt":"2023-05-02T15:37:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=290142"},"modified":"2023-05-01T16:35:12","modified_gmt":"2023-05-01T21:35:12","slug":"pregnancy-center-abortion-facility-texas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnancy-center-abortion-facility-texas\/","title":{"rendered":"Pregnancy center replaces long-time abortion facility in Texas"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>In McAllen, Texas, a pro-life organization has turned a former abortion facility into a life-affirming pregnancy center.<\/p>\n<p>The Pillar, a Catholic news outlet, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pillarcatholic.com\/p\/life-after-death-texas-abortion-clinic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that the once-infamous McAllen abortion business is now a place women can come for pregnancy tests, which also offers a \u201cbaby boutique\u201d for supplies parents need, counseling programs, parenting classes, and numerous other services. Shattering the stereotype that pro-lifers only \u201cwant the baby to be born,\u201d this new center is a reminder that the pro-life movement cares deeply about the parents, their baby, and their whole lives.<\/p>\n<p>Yolanda Chapa, founder of the McAllen Pregnancy Center, told the Pillar that it seemed a \u201cmiracle\u201d when the McAllen Whole Woman\u2019s Health abortion facility closed. Chapa had dubbed it \u201cthe mill,\u201d and noted it was the only place where abortions were committed along the Rio Grande Valley, which is comprised of four counties along South Texas\u2019 border with Mexico \u2014\u00a0which also comprises one of the poorest regions of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was on that sidewalk for 17 years,\u201d Chapa told the Pillar, adding, \u201cI was there in the rain, or heat \u2014 sometimes it was 105 degrees and we were there \u2014 from 7 in the morning until like 1. That\u2019s when the abortionist would leave, on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Whole Woman\u2019s Health, operating in six states, moved its Texas operations to New Mexico after Texas passed legislation protecting most preborn children from abortion after the fall of\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Chapa served those women, and thousands of others, at the McAllen Pregnancy Center, which she opened in May 2008, after she\u2019d already been praying and sidewalk counseling for years outside Whole Woman\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n<p>Chapa noted that the center offers some medical services. \u201cOur medical director is an OB\/GYN, and we do have medical staff, but the services we provide are very limited,&#8221; she said. &#8220;So we do not diagnose, but we can refer, and we have pro-life OB\/GYNs who help. So every client, if they want, will leave with a doctor\u2019s appointment, and the doctors can help them apply for Medicaid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/walgreens-cvs-petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-283198\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Walgreens CVS banner\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--768x197.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--500x128.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/11\/04\/texas-abortion-clinic-pregnancy-crisis-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas Tribune reported<\/a> on the initial sale of Whole Woman\u2019s Health to a pregnancy center, and the response of its CEO Amy Hagstrom Miller. \u201cTo say we were duped is an understatement,\u201d Miller told the news outlet. The Tribune labeled it \u201creal estate chicanery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But according to the Pillar, in October 2022, Whole Woman\u2019s Health was contacted by a group of doctors, operating under the name Peruvian Alliance. The contact regarded a cash sale of the building. \u201cThe group was led by Dr. Luis Alberto Rosas, a local infectious disease specialist \u2014 who is <em>publicly listed in tax filings<\/em> as a board member of McAllen Pregnancy Center,\u201d the Pillar reported (emphasis added). Thus, while Miller may say they were \u201cduped,\u201d and the Tribune may label it \u201cchicanery,\u201d it does seem that public records would have shown the pro-life connection.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless, the Pillar reported that the Peruvian Alliance bought the building on October 17, 2022, and later the same month, sold the building to McAllen Pregnancy Center.<\/p>\n<p>Chapa\u2019s take on whether or not Miller and her abortion center organization were \u201cduped\u201d or not is a different perspective altogether. She told\u00a0The Pillar\u00a0that God provided for her center\u2019s needs, in a most unexpected way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a huge victory for the Lord,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Because we did nothing. He did it all.
