Approximately: 50% of younger North Americans, 60% of Russians, 90% of younger Chinese are abortion survivors.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why does it matter? Because many siblings who were allowed to live when their siblings were\u00a0not\u00a0<\/em>given the same chance experience survivor’s guilt that permeates their entire lives. Dr. Ney says of surviving siblings that they have “lifelong struggles about existing” because their existence is based on the arbitrary condition of wantedness. Their parents wanted them, and not their other siblings, who may have had similar DNA but who, for some reason, were not fortunate enough to fall into the category of being wanted<\/em>. If this flimsy criterion – wantedness – is enough to determine the difference between life and death, it is no surprise that survivor’s guilt has led to widespread problems, such as unresolved grief and poor bonding with parents.<\/p>\n

A condition that was formerly relegated to the likes of Holocaust survivors and soldiers is now understood to affect mass portions of the American population. This reality calls for a healing that is as widespread and powerful as it is.
