A woman in India is alleged to have killed her baby boy only moments after giving birth to him inside the bathroom of her home in the Kasba region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India Today reports<\/span><\/a> that the woman, 32-year old Nicola Stanislaus, went to the toilet around 4.30 p.m. local time last Saturday. Shortly after, local neighbors heard the sound of a glass breaking. They emerged from their homes to discover that Stanislaus had allegedly \u201cbroken the window of the [restroom] and threw something outside that got stuck in the drain.\u201d The story adds that the locals then rushed over where they discovered the newborn and notified the Kasba Police, who were dispatched and promptly interrogated Stanislaus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A story in <\/span>India Today<\/span><\/a> adds that the Kasba Police said that Stanislaus \u201c<\/span>and her husband were hard-core alcoholics.\u201d Furthering the situation was the woman\u2019s claim that she did not know she was pregnant until she suddenly delivered her son inside the toilet.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While no updated information on the veracity of Stanislaus\u2019 claim is available yet, the woman told police that the reason she was not aware was that she had been menstruating the past several months, according to India Today. However, upon further examination, the story says, \u201c<\/span>Doctors told police that the child had suffered an injury while it was in the womb, due to which it bled and Nicola mistook it as her menstruation. The post-mortem report states that the newborn baby died due to serious injury and malnutrition.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Reportedly, local police also revealed that while being interrogated, Stanislaus \u201cnot only confessed to having thrown her baby out of the toilet, she also poured buckets of water inside the toilet thinking that it would wash her baby away from the drain.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

India Today adds, \u201cPolice said although Nicola said that she was not aware of her pregnancy, doctors, who conducted the post-mortem of the newborn, said that the woman had given birth to a seven-month-old premature baby.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Adding to the claim that the couple were alcoholics, police also said \u201cNicola was mentally unstable and used to speak very little in the last two to three months.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stanislaus is currently undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case against her under Section 315 (act done with intent to prevent child being born alive or to cause it to die after birth) of the IPC.<\/span><\/p>\n
