{"id":289552,"date":"2023-04-22T13:38:16","date_gmt":"2023-04-22T18:38:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=289552"},"modified":"2023-04-21T15:57:53","modified_gmt":"2023-04-21T20:57:53","slug":"prison-inmate-murder-pregnant-worker-baby","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prison-inmate-murder-pregnant-worker-baby\/","title":{"rendered":"Prison inmate charged with murder of pregnant hospital worker&#8217;s preborn child"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>A prison inmate has been charged with murder after she allegedly punched a pregnant hospital worker with such force that she killed the worker&#8217;s preborn baby.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/crime\/texas-inmate-charged-with-murder-punching-pregnant-hospital-worker-killing-unborn-child\/287-d9ee9748-6ba0-4871-bf04-47e5067c1dc9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WFAA<\/a>, 39-year-old Cheri Aziza Akil was in the custody of the Tarrant County Sheriff&#8217;s Office when she was transferred to the John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas, on Wednesday due to a risk of suicide. The sheriff&#8217;s office said Akil was being restrained at the time of the incident and that the hospital worker was standing next to the inmate&#8217;s bed. That is when Akil allegedly punched the worker in the stomach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vJGdKkb0-Xw\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The hospital worker was taken to the trauma unit in the hospital, where it was learned that her baby had no heartbeat.<\/p>\n<p>According to The Blaze, Akil had been arrested for credit debit fraud two days prior and had been released on a $1,500 bond. But by Wednesday, she was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and intentionally\/knowingly operating an illicit game room. <a href=\"https:\/\/lawandcrime.com\/crime\/texas-woman-with-meth-possession-history-accused-of-murdering-pregnant-hospital-staffers-unborn-baby-after-credit-card-arrest\/\">Law and Crime<\/a> also states Akil has a longstanding methamphetamine possession case. The law is clear that it is considered capital murder when &#8220;the person murders an individual under 10 years of age&#8230;&#8221; That <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texastribune.org\/2022\/09\/13\/texas-personhood-laws-abortion-law\/#:~:text=The%20Texas%20Penal%20Code%20was,cases%20of%20murder%20and%20assault.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">includes<\/a> \u201can unborn child at every stage of gestation from fertilization until birth.\u201d The law does not allow a pregnant mother to be charged with murder for the death of her own child.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, a Texas man was found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tdcaa.com\/journal\/capital-murder-in-the-death-of-a-5-week-old-fetus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guilty<\/a> of capital murder in the death of his estranged wife&#8217;s five-week-old preborn baby. The guilty verdict carried an automatic life sentence without parole.
