{"id":289429,"date":"2023-04-20T10:44:51","date_gmt":"2023-04-20T15:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=289429"},"modified":"2023-04-19T18:46:35","modified_gmt":"2023-04-19T23:46:35","slug":"west-virginia-abortion-lawsuit-dropped","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/west-virginia-abortion-lawsuit-dropped\/","title":{"rendered":"West Virginia abortion business drops lawsuit challenging abortion regulations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedia.org\/case\/womens-health-center-west-virginia-v-sheth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alliance Defending Freedom<\/a>) A West Virginia abortion facility told a federal district court Monday that it is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedialegalfiles.blob.core.windows.net\/files\/ShethVoluntaryDismissal.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dropping its lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0challenging the state\u2019s health and safety regulations designed to protect unborn lives and women\u2019s health.<\/p>\n<p>West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, assisted by attorneys from Alliance Defending Freedom, has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/adfmedia.org\/press-release\/wv-abortion-facility-opposes-state-law-designed-protect-womens-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defending the law<\/a>, asking the court to leave abortion policy in the hands of the state\u2019s elected representatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs West Virginia\u2019s first pro-life attorney general, I stand firm in the belief that it is our duty to protect innocent life. We need to save as many innocent babies\u2019 lives as legally possible,\u201d Morrisey said. \u201cI am proud to stand for the most vulnerable of our society and the sanctity of life. My office stands ready to defend this clearly constitutional law to the fullest should this lawsuit be refiled, or against any other legal challenge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWest Virginia has a strong and compelling interest in protecting unborn life, and maternal health and safety. Wade<\/em>, West Virginia largely replaced its previous pro-life law with the Unborn Child Protection Act, protecting unborn life from abortion in most circumstances. In this case,\u00a0<em>Women\u2019s Health Center of West Virginia v.
