A 68-year-old Spanish actress has revealed that her newly adopted baby girl was born to a surrogate… using sperm from her dead son.<\/p>\n

Ana Obreg\u00f3n sat for a recent interview with celebrity magazine \u00a1Hola!<\/a>, where she revealed the truth about the little girl, named Ana Sandra. \u201cThis girl is not my daughter, but my granddaughter,” she said. “She is the daughter of Aless and when she grows up I will tell her that her father was a hero, so that she knows who she is and how proud she has to be of him.”<\/p>\n

In 2020, Obreg\u00f3n lost her only child, Alejandro Alfonso “Aless” Lequio, to cancer, and said she decided to create his child the day he died. She implies as well that she was suicidal after the loss of her son.<\/p>\n

“The decision to start the surrogate pregnancy process, which implies, as you know, the participation of an egg donor and a surrogate mother, was made the day my child went to heaven. The same day. What people don’t know is that this was Aless’s last will: to bring his son into the world,” she said, adding, “It has been very difficult. The pregnancy did not occur on the first attempt, far from it; They have been several times and every time I didn’t go out I was terribly upset and started over. It’s been a battle, a long road, but it’s what has kept me alive. It’s just that if it weren’t for this, I wouldn’t be here anymore.”<\/p>\n

She also said she would consider having more of her son’s children, as his dream was allegedly to have five children. And though Obreg\u00f3n claimed that her son’s last will was an oral request to have a child, there is allegedly no paperwork to back up her argument, which is that her son would want his mother to have his child through surrogacy.<\/p>\n

It is impossible to determine if he truly consented to such a scenario.<\/p>\n

Additionally, children are human beings who have an inherent right to two parents, a mother and a father. This child has been denied both. Judging by Obreg\u00f3n comments, numerous babies died in her attempt to have a grandchild through her deceased son.<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that losing a child is a horrifically tragic circumstance, but a child should not be created to make an adult feel like their life is meaningful again… especially an elderly adult who may die while Ana is still a child.<\/p>\n

The situation has caused controversy in Spain, where surrogacy is prohibited.<\/p>\n

Equality Minister Irene Montero responded<\/a> to the announcement by pointing out that surrogacy is inherently exploitative. “Surrogacy is a practice that is not legal in Spain. It is legally recognized in our country as a form of violence against women,” she told reporters. “Is there a bias towards women in poverty? Definitely. We can\u2019t forget the reality of these women in precarious situations or who are at risk of, or in, poverty.\u201d<\/p>\n

Felix Bola\u00f1os, the minister for the presidency, added, \u201cWomen\u2019s bodies should not be bought nor rented to satisfy anyone\u2019s desires.”<\/p>\n
