Washington Governor Jay Inslee, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/washington-stockpiles-abortion-pills-ruling-fda\/\">stockpiling abortion pills<\/a> in his state, sent Little a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.krem.com\/article\/news\/health\/wa-gov-letter-to-idaho-gov-abortion-laws\/293-1997a79f-08f9-492d-8f66-ebd54f1ca2ce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> urging a veto, saying, &#8220;Among the harmful impacts that this legislation will have, particularly when combined with Idaho\u2019s recently passed abortion bans, are the exodus of some healthcare professionals from your state as well as the certain resulting increased mortality rate of Idahoan women and girls.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Abortion trafficking is now illegal in Idaho thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorLittle?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GovernorLittle<\/a> signing HB 242 ?<\/p>\n<p>This legislation protects minors &amp; babies from violent abortion \u26a0\ufe0f<\/p>\n<p>Anyone guilty of trafficking a teenager for out-of-state abortion faces 2-5 years in prison.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gzytNcAUdP\">https:\/\/t.co\/gzytNcAUdP<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Live Action (@LiveAction) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LiveAction\/status\/1644411763281076228?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p><strong>4\/5\/23:<\/strong> A bill that would protect minors from being taken across state lines for abortion is making its way through the Idaho legislature.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sessioninfo\/2023\/legislation\/H0242.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 242<\/a> would protect minor children from &#8220;abortion trafficking.&#8221; It would be illegal for an adult to give abortion pills to a child, and also protects children from an adult \u201crecruiting, harboring, or transporting&#8221; them for abortion without parental consent. If someone is found to have participated in abortion trafficking, they face between two and five years in prison.<\/p>\n<p>Abusers have been known to take their victims across state lines and force them into abortions, as a means of hiding their crimes. These abusers are often <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/aiding-abusers-sexual-predators-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aided by the abortion industry<\/a>, which is why a bill like this is needed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gives us the tools to go after those who would subvert a parent\u2019s right to be able to make those decisions in conjunction with their child,\u201d Rep. Barbara Ehardt, who sponsored the bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/idahocapitalsun.com\/2023\/03\/29\/planned-parenthood-vows-legal-action-against-idahos-abortion-trafficking-bill-if-passed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Gibron, CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Northwest, said if it passes, they will sue, and cited Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh&#8217;s opinion in the <em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization<\/em> decision which overturned <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>. \u201cThere\u2019s no way this bill is constitutional,\u201d Gibron told States Newsroom. \u201cEven (Kavanaugh) agrees that people have a right to interstate travel for abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/walgreens-cvs-petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-283198\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Walgreens CVS banner\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--768x197.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--500x128.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yet while people may have the right to interstate travel for abortion, transporting a <em>minor<\/em> <em>child<\/em> across state lines for an abortion, without parental consent, is not as clear, as National Right to Life President Carol Tobias explained.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;HB 242 protects parents\u2019 rights to be involved in their minor daughter\u2019s decision,&#8221; she said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmvt.com\/2023\/04\/03\/groups-react-abortion-trafficking-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to KMVT<\/a>. &#8220;No minor daughter should be without her parents\u2019 guidance and HB 242 would protect the right of parents. Parents have the right to love their daughter and be there for her in her time of need. No one should take that away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill has passed both houses of the Idaho legislature, and must be signed by Gov.
