The hospital has a clear pro-life <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dignityhealth.org\/content\/dam\/dignity-health\/pdfs\/statement-of-common-values.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mission statement:<\/a> \u201cFor Dignity Health, respecting the dignity of persons requires reverence at every stage of life\u2019s journey from conception to natural death. Therefore, direct abortion is not performed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jessica Valenti is an author and feminist commentator who writes about abortion in her \u201cAbortion Every Day\u201d substack, newsletter, and podcast. When a reader sent her a picture of a sign in the labor and delivery ward proclaiming the hospital\u2019s pro-life values, she couldn\u2019t contain her outrage. The sign summarized the hospital\u2019s mission in a concise statement: \u201cSt. Joseph\u2019s Medical Center promotes the dignity of human life from the moment of conception until death. Therefore, abortion is not performed here.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This will be in my newsletter this afternoon, but I had to vent about it now. A reader sent me this picture of a sign that&#39;s prominently displayed as you walk into the Labor &amp; Delivery Unit of Dignity Health\u2019s St. Joseph&#39;s Medical Center in Stockton, California: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dCPXUfnHj7\">pic.twitter.com\/dCPXUfnHj7<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jessica Valenti (@JessicaValenti) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JessicaValenti\/status\/1635288894966231043?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 13, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Valenti took to Twitter to vent her anger (<em>note: edited for profanity<\/em>):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>Do women looking normally rush into the Labor &amp; Delivery Ward looking for abortions? Are the doctors there confused about what procedures they\u2019re meant to perform? [&#8230;] Or maybe, just maybe, this sign is simply meant to be a nasty, condescending shaming tactic that targets patients in their most vulnerable moments. As a doctor friend of mine said when I texted her the picture: F*ck these people.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A common false belief among supporters of abortion is that late-term abortions are typically only committed for serious medical reasons. The reality is that induced abortion \u2014 the intentional, targeted taking of a preborn life \u2014 is <a href=\"https:\/\/prolifereplies.liveaction.org\/medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not medically necessary<\/a>, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-docs-abortion-healthcare\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">not health care<\/a>\u00a0(because health care doesn&#8217;t intentionally kill humans) \u2013 especially in the third trimester, which unambiguously involves the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s0oIpdh5-QM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">intentional killing<\/a> of a fully-formed human being capable of surviving outside the womb.<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to the arguments of abortion supporters, as <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-check-late-abortions-dire-medical-reasons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Action News has reported<\/a>, even the research of multiple pro-abortion organizations shows that the vast majority of late term abortions are done for <em>elective<\/em>, rather than <em>medical<\/em>, reasons. Some peer-reviewed studies, including one reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/secularprolife.org\/laterabortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Secular Pro-Life<\/a>, showed: \u201cThe new information respondents received that led to their decision to obtain an abortion [after 24 weeks gestation] was not exclusively related to fetal health. For some respondents, the new information they obtained was that they were pregnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite this, Valenti proclaimed that she \u201cdidn\u2019t care\u201d about the Catholic hospital\u2019s values, and wondered what the point of the sign was. The polarization of abortion supporters in the wake of the <em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization<\/em> decision has resulted in abortion activists ignoring the science and facts, and promoting abortion on demand through all stages of pregnancy. For instance, last year Gov. Newsom of California \u2013 a state that has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/california-abortion-hub-vulnerable\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made efforts to promote itself as an abortion haven<\/a> in the wake of <em>Dobbs<\/em> \u2013 signed legislation into law that many feared would <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/california-pro-abortion-bills-concerns-infanticide\/\">legalize infanticide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/walgreens-cvs-petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-283198\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Walgreens CVS banner\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--768x197.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--500x128.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Valenti\u2019s animosity toward the pro-life values of a Catholic hospital comes in a climate where such institutions are frequently <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/california-law-free-speech-restrictions-pro-lifers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressured<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ny-aclu-catholic-hospital-commit-abortions-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">violate their conscience<\/a>, or worse, become the target of vandalism, violence, and harassment. Abortion supporters like Valenti continue to ignore the tragic cases of parents who have reported being <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pressured-abort-decimal-point-down-syndrome-misdiagnosis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pressured to abort<\/a>, or tragically have unintentionally <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/healthy-preborn-baby-ireland-aborted-doctors-misdiagnosis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aborted healthy babies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Encouragingly, a number of Twitter users ignored Valenti\u2019s ire, and responded positively to the sign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a great sign. This should be in every hospital. No hospital should ever be killing patients because are disabled, unwanted, sick, unborn, vulnerable, or old,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FrMatthewLC\/status\/1635843722893049856\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted Fr.
