A notorious abortion facility in Pensacola, Florida, closed earlier this year \u2014 and the state has ensured that it will not be able to reopen. The Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) issued a final order<\/a> revoking the license for American Family Planning. A fine of $343,200 was also imposed.<\/p>\n

In May of 2022, the state ordered<\/a> the facility to close after three women had to be hospitalized within nine months; none of the injuries were reported as required by state law. The state determined that the facility posed an immediate threat to the health, safety, or welfare of its patients.<\/p>\n

The first woman was injured so badly that parts of her colon had to be removed. The second bled so much that EMS officials arrived, she was cool to the touch, had dangerously low blood pressure, and had no detectable pulse. At the hospital, she was found to have a \u201cbig hole on the left wall of the uterus and another on the right side,\u201d as well as lacerations to her cervix. She had to undergo a complete hysterectomy.<\/p>\n

The third woman suffered a lacerated cervix, as well as a ruptured uterus. Despite the severity of her injuries, staff told her husband to drive her to a hospital in Mobile, Alabama, instead of calling for an ambulance. Once they arrived, doctors found that she had extremely low blood pressure and a blood oxygen level of just 80%, which is considered dangerous. She had to be resuscitated and required blood transfusions.<\/p>\n

American Family Planning is owned by Integrity Medical Care LLC and was the only abortion facility on the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Tallahassee. Integrity Medical Care reportedly has ties to notoriously dangerous abortionist Steven Chase Brigham<\/a>, whose medical license has been suspended, revoked, or relinquished<\/a> in multiple states. He is not licensed to practice medicine anywhere, yet gets around this by using other abortionists<\/a> as a front to make it seem like he is not involved.<\/p>\n

In previous<\/a> years<\/a>, the facility also operated without a license, a medical director, admitting privileges, or a transfer agreement with a local hospital.<\/p>\n

Originally, the facility’s attorney, Julie Gallagher, said it planned to appeal the state’s ruling. But she then told a state judge that a settlement had been reached and the facility would voluntarily relinquish its license and would permanently close \u2014 though the settlement said the facility \u201cdoes not admit to any of the facts and legal conclusions\u201d from the state. But the ruling from the AHCA makes it impossible for the facility to attempt to reopen later, keeping women in the Pensacola area safe from a very dangerous abortion business.<\/p>\n
