ABC’s show The Connors<\/em>, a spinoff of Roseanne<\/em>, made headlines recently after a character in her early 20s announced she was pregnant<\/a> \u2014 only to be pressured to have an abortion.<\/p>\n

During the episode \u201cPossums (sic), Pregnancy and Patriarchy,\u201d Harris \u2014 the granddaughter of Roseanne \u2014 said she was pregnant, after having deleted her period tracker. With the overturning of Roe v. Wade<\/em>, Harris said she \u201cdidn\u2019t want Big Brother spying on her ovaries.\u201d Her grandfather, played by John Goodman, was encouraging, and reassured her that she could be a good mother, even if it wasn’t part of her plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I know this is a shock, and you\u2019re probably feeling there is no way I am ready to have this baby, but we\u2019ve all felt like that,\u201d he said. \u201cThere is never enough time, there is never enough money or enough anything you just make it happen, and somehow it all works out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet Laurie Metcalf’s character, Jackie, was one of several who jumped to abortion as the immediate “solution.”<\/p>\n
