{"id":285886,"date":"2023-02-22T16:47:13","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T22:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=285886"},"modified":"2023-02-27T13:34:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-27T19:34:42","slug":"biden-doj-charges-8-activists-face-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biden-doj-charges-8-activists-face-act\/","title":{"rendered":"Biden DOJ charges 8 more pro-life activists with FACE Act violations"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>The Department of Justice has charged eight more individuals with violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act for involvement in a pro-life &#8220;rescue&#8221; at an abortion facility in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/eight-defendants-indicted-michigan-obstructing-reproductive-health-services-facility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charges<\/a>, the eight pro-life individuals \u2014\u00a0Calvin Zastrow, Chester Gallagher, Heather Idoni, Caroline Davis, Joel Curry, Justin Phillips, Eva Edl, and Eva Zastrow \u2014\u00a0allegedly blocked the door of an abortion business on August 27, 2020, in Sterling Heights, Michigan.<\/p>\n<p>The indictment says the individuals aimed to prevent the Sterling Heights facility from committing abortions and that Gallagher advertised the group&#8217;s activism on social media in addition to live-streaming the event. A pro-life activist who has not been charged is said to have recorded the incident while stating that the group was &#8220;going over to stand in front of the door&#8221; and &#8220;interpose.&#8221; The indictment also alleges that the eight defendants used physical obstruction to intimidate the abortion facility employees and patients.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW: The DOJ has charged eight more pro-life activists with violating the FACE Act related to an August 2020 incident at a Sterling Heights, Michigan abortion clinic.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/He47Vd1z7n\">https:\/\/t.co\/He47Vd1z7n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Mary Margaret Olohan (@MaryMargOlohan) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MaryMargOlohan\/status\/1628481770810142722?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>Idoni and Edl were also charged with allegedly blocking an abortion business entrance in April 2021 in Saginaw, Michigan, and with alleged intimidation of employees and patients there.<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ&#8217;s Civil Rights Division and the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan are prosecuting the case, which comes less than two months after the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/sidewalk-counselor-mark-houck-acquitted-charges\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acquittal<\/a> of another pro-life activist who had been charged with violating the FACE Act.<\/p>\n<p>That activist, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/couple-praises-fbi-sidewalk-counselor-mark-houck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark Houck<\/a>, was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fbi-raids-pro-life-traumatize-children\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">arrested<\/a> at gunpoint by 15-20 FBI agents in front of his young children in September 2022 in connection to an incident in which he is said to have shoved a Planned Parenthood abortion facility escort who may have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/law-firm-planned-parenthood-escort-training-manual\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">broken<\/a> escort protocol to harass Houck&#8217;s 12-year-old son. Houck was acquitted of all charges on January 30, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/walgreens-cvs-petition\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-283198\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg\" alt=\"Walgreens CVS banner\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--700x180.jpg 700w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--300x77.jpg 300w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--768x197.jpg 768w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Keep-Abortion-Pill-Out-Of-Walgreens-CVSLAN-Horizontal--500x128.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2023\/02\/22\/biden-doj-charges-eight-more-pro-life-activists-with-violating-face-act\/\">Daily Signal<\/a>, Biden&#8217;s DOJ charged 26 pro-life activists with FACE Act violations in 2022, but failed to charge a single pro-abortion activist with FACE Act violations last year despite numerous <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-pregnancy-centers-targeted-violence\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacks<\/a> on pro-life pregnancy centers, which are also protected by the FACE Act. In January 2023, the DOJ did finally <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/doj-indicts-florida-residents-vandalism-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indict<\/a> two pro-abortion activists who attacked pro-life facilities in Florida.<\/p>\n<p>Edl is the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/87-concentration-camp-survivor-pro-lifers-fbi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">survivor<\/a> of a World War II communist prisoner-of-war concentration camp. After escaping that camp and coming to the United States, she began to fight for the right to life for all human beings.
