Pro-abortion lawmakers are proposing to roll back a suite of pro-life laws in Tennessee in an attempt restore Roe v. Wade<\/em>‘s abortion provisions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Proposed on Tuesday, the <\/span>Fundamental Right to Reproductive Health Care Act<\/span><\/a> targets the state\u2019s trigger ban that took effect in August. As the trigger law came close to taking effect, several abortion facilities in the state either <\/span>halted abortions or closed their doors<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Besides legalizing abortion, Rep. London Lamar\u2019s proposal would strike current <\/span>provisions prohibiting<\/span><\/a> taxpayer funding of abortion and mandate that <\/span>health insurance exchange plans<\/span><\/a> cover the procedure. Among other things, it would also remove <\/span>restrictions on the abortion pill<\/span><\/a>, revoke plans to create a <\/span>monument to preborn children<\/span><\/a>, remove abortion <\/span>reporting requirements<\/span><\/a>, as well as redefine ambulatory surgical centers to include abortion facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another provision would remove a <\/span>portion of state code<\/span><\/a> prohibiting public schools from \u201cknowingly enter[ing] into a transaction to assist in teaching family life with an individual or entity that \u2026 [p]rovides abortion referrals.\u201d State law <\/span>defines<\/span><\/a> \u201cfamily life education\u201d as \u201cabstinence-centered sex education.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During a press conference, Senate Democratic Caucus Chair London Lamar (Memphis) denounced the legal framework that arose after the Supreme Court\u2019s decision in Dobbs<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are here because we envision a world where Tennesseans are free to raise their children in safe, supportive, healthy, and loving communities free from government interference in their personal, family decisions,\u201d she <\/span>said<\/span><\/a>. In 2000, Lamar appeared in a maternal health campaign ad<\/a> promoting Michael Bloomberg<\/a>, a former New York City Mayor and Democratic presidential candidate who donated millions toward successful pro-abortion efforts<\/a> in Kansas and Michigan<\/a> during the last election cycle.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
