While some of this is well-known among pro-lifers, what is less known is that Buffett was also instrumental in creating a &#8220;church&#8221; as a front for referring women for illegal abortions prior to <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 a &#8220;church&#8221; that eventually merged into Planned Parenthood Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Warren Buffett&#8217;s abortion pill philanthropy<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warren Buffett&#8217;s\u00a0Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation was <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/will-fund-abortion-pills-california-campuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">among<\/a> the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/secrecy-abortion-pill-maker-investors\/\">original investors<\/a> in Danco Laboratories, the U.S. abortion pill manufacturer.\u00a0In addition, the Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/archive\/politics\/2000\/10\/12\/drugs-us-marketer-remains-elusive\/8b7b732b-0f23-4c96-9051-714cd3d9f6f8\/\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0in 2000, \u201cThe Buffett Foundation\u2026 made at least $2 million in interest-free loans to the Population Council\u2026 according to tax documents filed in 1995. That money was in turn used to conduct clinical trials of RU-486 [the abortion pill].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Today, Buffett Foundation dollars <a href=\"http:\/\/990s.foundationcenter.org\/990pf_pdf_archive\/476\/476032365\/476032365_201412_990PF.pdf\">flow<\/a> to Planned Parenthood, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/expand-access-abortion-pill-tied-eugenics\/\">Gynuity Health Projects<\/a>\u00a0(which conducted clinical trials of the abortion pill), and many groups tied to the abortion pill, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=American%20College\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACOG<\/a>), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/exposing-acog-medical-organization-supports-abortion-industry\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">which<\/a>\u00a0is stridently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/american-college-obstetricians-gynecologists-pro-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-abortion<\/a> and recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=American%20College%20of%20Obstetrics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a>\u00a0$1.4 million from the Buffett Foundation. ACOG has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=American%20College\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">funded<\/a> by Buffett for years. ACOG&#8217;s official Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (JOG) (a.k.a. the &#8220;Green Journal&#8221;) also <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-studies-approve-mail-order-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/?s=%22Green+Journal%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple<\/a> abortion pill <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-abortion-pill-reversal-questionable-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">studies<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190613012041\/https:\/\/www.ucop.edu\/institutional-research-academic-planning\/_files\/non-profit-research-funding.pdf\">Investing<\/a> in the University of California system, a <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT03320057?term=mifepristone%2C+grossman&amp;cond=abortion&amp;draw=2&amp;rank=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collaborator<\/a> in abortion pill clinical trials. In past years, Buffett <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20190613012041\/https:\/\/www.ucop.edu\/institutional-research-academic-planning\/_files\/non-profit-research-funding.pdf\">gave<\/a> $78 million to UC \u2014 and according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/07\/18\/magazine\/18abortion-t.html\">New York Times<\/a>, Buffett is the primary financier of the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/paying-millions-abortion-training-taxpayers\/\">Bixby Center\u2019s<\/a> Ryan Residency Program at <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/whos-who-abortion-pill-reversal-study\/\">UCSF<\/a>, where abortionists are trained.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=DKT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DKT International<\/a>,\u00a0which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/funded-bill-gates-abortion-pill-worldwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">distributes<\/a> the abortion pill worldwide and was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dktinternational.org\/about\/board-of-directors\/\">founded<\/a>\u00a0in 1989\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/funds-promotes-abortions-money-selling-porn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">porn tycoon<\/a>\u00a0Philip Harvey.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=maine&amp;grantee_name=FAMILY%20PLANNING%20ASSOCIATION%20OF%20MAINE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Family Planning Associates of Maine<\/a>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/hhs-floods-planned-parenthood-taxpayer-dollars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">does<\/a> business as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-trial-expands-thwart-fda-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maine Family Planning<\/a>\u00a0and participated in Gynuity&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/telabortion-abortion-pill-trial-skirts-fda-regulations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TelAbortion<\/a> trial for mail-order abortion.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/profiles\/v0\/476032365-susan-thompson-buffett-foundation\/?query=IBIS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">IBIS Reproductive Health<\/a>, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibisreproductivehealth.org\/people\/grossman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senior Advisor<\/a> is Dr. Daniel Grossman, a <a href=\"https:\/\/clinicaltrials.gov\/ct2\/show\/NCT03320057?term=mifepristone%2C+grossman&amp;cond=abortion&amp;draw=2&amp;rank=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sponsor<\/a> behind abortion pill studies.\u00a0Grossman was a senior leader at IBIS Reproductive Health while conducting abortion pill studies\u00a0<em>at the same time<\/em>\u00a0that the organization was getting\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1611043444431912962\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">direct funding from Danco<\/a>, the abortion pill&#8217;s manufacturer (pointing to a conflict of interest).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/record-high-abortion-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood<\/a>, a location site for multiple abortion pill trials. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/capitalresearch.org\/article\/warren-buffetts-foundation-has-poured-4-billion-into-pro-abortion-advocacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Capital Research<\/a>, the Buffett Foundation \u201cpaid about\u00a0<strong>$675 million<\/strong>\u00a0to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.influencewatch.org\/non-profit\/planned-parenthood-federation-of-america\/\">Planned Parenthood Federation of America<\/a>\u00a0and its international and state-level affiliates from 2000 to 2018.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.grantmakers.io\/search\/grants\/?query=Population%20Council\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Population Council<\/a>, which brought the abortion pill to the U.S. and helped to establish Danco.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.societyfp.org\/resources\/contraception-journal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Society of Family Planning<\/a>\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.societyfp.org\/resources\/contraception-journal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SFP),<\/a>\u00a0part of the TelAbortion\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.contraceptionjournal.org\/article\/S0010-7824(19)30176-3\/pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a>\u00a0team.\u00a0In 2016, the Buffett Foundation <a href=\"http:\/\/990s.foundationcenter.org\/990pf_pdf_archive\/476\/476032365\/476032365_201612_990PF.pdf\">gave<\/a> SFP over $8 million.\u00a0According to <a href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200411143302\/https:\/\/www.insidephilanthropy.com\/home\/2020\/1\/23\/vanguard-defenders-what-top-foundations-are-doing-to-protect-abortion-access\">Inside Philanthropy<\/a>, the\u00a0Buffett Foundation\u00a0&#8220;gave major support to the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CaroleNovielli\/status\/1204803418709209090\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Society of Family Planning<\/a> in 2018 through <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/follow-money-pro-abortion-group-suicide-risk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">several grants<\/a> totaling about $28 million.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/990s.foundationcenter.org\/990pf_pdf_archive\/476\/476032365\/476032365_201712_990PF.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tara Health Foundation<\/a>, which pushed to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/will-fund-abortion-pills-california-campuses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">expand<\/a> abortion pills on college campuses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-study-anonymous-medical-journal-allowing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">multiple<\/a> abortion pill studies <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-studies-funding-media-ignore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cite<\/a> an <em>anonymous foundation<\/em> as their funding source. Yet, in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-funded-abortion-pill-investor-buffett-foundation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one instance<\/a>, where the Journal required that all funding sources be identified, the &#8220;anonymous foundation&#8221; turned out to be\u00a0the Buffett Foundation.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/give.liveaction.org\/general-donation\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=display&amp;utm_campaign=monthly&amp;utm_content=article\"><b><i>For every dollar given, 34 more people can be reached with the truth about abortion. Will you join us in this life-saving work as a monthly donor today?<\/i><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Warren Buffett and Charles Munger create pro-abortion &#8216;church&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Warren Buffett&#8217;s pro-abortion activism can largely be attributed to Charles Munger, an investment partner and close friend at Berkshire Hathaway who was also a financial supporter of the eugenicist and NARAL founder\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/not-just-planned-parenthood-naral-eugenicist-founders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Garret Hardin<\/a>; Hardin suggested that sterilization of women should be framed as &#8220;helping&#8221; them, believed infanticide should be instituted if abortion didn&#8217;t cull the population enough, and was &#8211; in the words of one professor &#8211; \u201ca\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.splcenter.org\/fighting-hate\/extremist-files\/individual\/garrett-hardin\">racist, eugenicist, nativist and Islamophobe<\/a>.\u201d Buffett and Munger were instrumental in the decriminalization of abortion in California by financing the legal defense of Dr. Leon Belous, who had been convicted of referring a woman for an illegal abortion in <em>People v. Belous\u00a0<\/em>at the state Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;During the 1960s Munger helped California women obtain abortions in Mexico by paying for their trips. Later he was a driving force in helping persuade the California Supreme Court to make the first decision overturning, on constitutional grounds, a law prohibiting abortions. Recalls Buffett: &#8216;Charlie took over the case,'&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/forbespr\/2014\/02\/04\/forbes-launches-e-book-warren-buffet-the-59-billion-philanthropist\/?sh=6dd4032202c2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> Forbes. &#8220;He solicited the deans of leading medical and law schools to enter amicus briefs. Charlie did all the work on it night and day, even writing some of the briefs himself,\u201d Forbes added.<\/p>\n<p>Buffett and Munger also financed the Los Angeles Clergy Consultation Services (CCS), an underground network of ministers which assisted women in obtaining illegal abortions, according to author David J. Garrow in his book <em>Liberty and Sexuality<\/em>. It was during this time, writes Author Janet Lowe in her &#8220;behind the scenes&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Damn-Right-Berkshire-Hathaway-Billionaire\/dp\/0471446912\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">book<\/a> about Munger, that &#8220;Munger and Buffett sponsored a &#8216;church&#8217; called the Ecumenical Fellowship that counseled women on family planning.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The church, run by a legitimate minister who got in trouble with his own denomination for his pro-abortion activities, sometimes helped women get safe abortions outside the United States,&#8221; Lowe wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Garrow confirmed, writing, &#8220;Munger and Buffett were continuing to finance the Los Angeles clergy referral service, even to the point of helping the principal clergyman, J. Hugh Anwyl, start a new church after being dismissed from his previous pulpit&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anwyl&#8217;s job as minister at Mount Hollywood Congregational did not coexist easily with his work on the CCS or other causes. The congregation fired him in February 1969&#8230;&#8221; wrote\u00a0Doris Andrea Dirks and Patricia A. Relf in their book about the history of the CCS, <em>To Offer Compassion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;His work with CCS, however, was far from over,&#8221;\u00a0Dirks and Relk expounded. &#8220;He received substantial funding for the CCS &#8211; and in March 1969 started a new organization to serve as its base, the Ecumenical Fellowship &#8211; from well-known investors and philanthropists Charles Munger and Warren Buffett.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Warren and I were revolutionaries,&#8221; Lowe cites Munger as stating. &#8220;We created a church that was used as an underground railroad. We supported the Clergy Counseling Service,&#8221; Munger stated. &#8220;The minister running it was cashiered by his own church for helping women get abortions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;First I tried to persuade the church to let him continue. That failed. I called Warren and asked him to help me establish our own church. That we did. For years this minister ran the thing. That was our contribution, trying to help so that society didn\u2019t force women to give birth\u2014to be held in a system Garrett Hardin called &#8216;mandatory motherhood,'&#8221; Munger allegedly stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The &#8216;church,&#8217; CCS merge into Planned Parenthood\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Munger was a trustee and chief financial officer for Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles. He told Lowe, &#8220;We were way ahead of the national office of Planned Parenthood in arranging abortions. The Planned Parenthood chapter in Los Angeles wanted to get into that business, but we didn&#8217;t know how.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We merged our church, the Ecumenical Fellowship, headed by the same guy who headed the Clergy Consultation Service, into the Los Angeles chapter of Planned Parenthood,&#8221; Munger claimed of himself and Warren Buffett.<\/p>\n<p>Dirks and Relf confirm the merger of CCS with Planned Parenthood, writing, &#8220;Initially, Planned Parenthood had not been cooperative with the clergy group in terms of providing abortion&#8230; In 1971, Planned Parenthood of Los Angeles (PPLA) &#8211; with CCS supporter Charlie Munger on the board &#8211; decided to expand its services to include abortion.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In April 1971, the CCS became a division of Planned Parenthood with Anwyl taking the title of associate director of PPLA,&#8221;\u00a0Dirks and Relf wrote. &#8220;In 1972, he became executive director of PPLA, a position he then held for seventeen years&#8230;.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Where Buffett says he can\u2019t remember ever selling a share of Berkshire stock, Munger has given away several hundred shares as charitable gifts. He has given heaps of money to Los Angeles\u2019 Good Samaritan Hospital.
