And with the proliferation of imported chemical abortions, future abortion data may only prove to be a snapshot of what the actual number actually looks like.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Past two decades of abortion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In just the past two decades (2000-2020), Guttmacher recorded nearly 23 million preborn deaths, while the CDC recorded 15.6 million preborn babies killed by abortion during that same time frame.\u00a0In those same two decades, taxpayer-funded Planned Parenthood reports that it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/record-high-abortion-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committed<\/a>\u00a0nearly 6.4 million of those abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Using Guttmacher&#8217;s nearly 23 million number, the number of preborn babies aborted in the past two decades outnumber the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/library\/stories\/state-by-state\/new-york-population-change-between-census-decade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">total population<\/a>\u00a0of New York State and about half of the population of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.census.gov\/library\/stories\/state-by-state\/california-population-change-between-census-decade.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a>, according to recent census data. To picture this staggering number another way, those aborted equate to nearly half of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/immigration\/2022\/02\/23\/report-u-s-immigrant-population-hits-record-46-6-million\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">estimated immigrant population<\/a>\u00a0of the United States.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2020 abortion statistics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The most recently published data on abortion is for the year 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The CDC&#8217;s November 25, 2022\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/71\/ss\/ss7110a1.htm?s_cid=ss7110a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a>\u00a0recorded\u00a0620,327 legally induced abortions from 49 reporting areas. According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/71\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7110a1-H.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CDC&#8217;s data<\/a>, abortion numbers decreased slightly in 2020 while abortion pill use has risen a whopping 154% since 2011. (Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cdc-report-abortion-2020-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>The most recent abortion statistics\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/news-release\/2022\/guttmacher-institute-releases-2020-abortion-provider-census-important-data-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0by Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/guttmacher-abortion-spike-2020-pregnancies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">revealed<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0930,160 abortions were\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/06\/long-term-decline-us-abortions-reverses-showing-rising-need-abortion-supreme-court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committed nationally<\/a>\u00a0in 2020 \u2014\u00a0an increase of 67,840 over the\u00a0862,320\u00a0abortions reported in\u00a02017. This translates into\u00a02,548 preborn human beings killed every day\u00a0in the U.S. by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abortionprocedures.com\/?__hstc=61024563.478fd7dbc07a6e695b4845418ea62b2e.1604423549341.1671044684498.1671129125165.2843&amp;__hssc=61024563.6.1671129125165&amp;__hsfp=626429062\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abortion<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0approximately\u00a0106 per hour, 1.8 per minute, and one every 35 seconds. (Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/guttmacher-abortion-spike-2020-pregnancies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><b>Reported number of chemical abortions<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill (Mifeprex) was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2000 in an unsettlingly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-21-years-secrecy-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secretive<\/a>\u00a0process.\u00a0By 2020, the abortion pill crossed the threshold to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/500k-preborn-human-abortion-pill-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">become<\/a>\u00a0the majority (53%) of all abortions committed in the United States, according to data\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1363\/psrh.12215\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/11\/abortion-incidence-and-service-availability-united-states-2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Guttmacher Institute<\/a>\u00a0researchers. This\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-sales-300m-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-sales-300m-abortion-pill\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1672970626036000&amp;usg=AOvVaw35YktkcCDdqkmQ9KtABs-R\">grosses<\/a>\u00a0the industry an estimated $300 million each year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reported deaths from legal abortion<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An abortion-related death is currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/71\/ss\/ss7110a1.htm?s_cid=ss7110a1_w\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">defined<\/a>\u00a0by the CDC as \u201ca death resulting from a direct complication of an abortion (legal or illegal), an indirect complication caused by a chain of events initiated by an abortion, or an aggravation of a pre-existing condition by the physiologic effects of abortion. An abortion is categorized as legal when it is performed by a licensed clinician within the limits of state law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the CDC has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cdc-report-abortion-2020-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> abortion data for 2020, CDC\u00a0data on maternal deaths is only available through 2019, where\u00a0four abortion-related deaths were recorded by the CDC. Between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/71\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7110a1-H.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1973 and 2019<\/a>,\u00a0CDC data recorded <b>454<\/b>\u00a0women\u2019s deaths from\u00a0<em>legal<\/em>\u00a0abortion with additional amounts reportedly due to\u00a0<i>illegal\u00a0<\/i>abortions.<\/p>\n<p><b>Worldwide abortion totals<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Many countries do not gather reliable abortion data, and not all countries have fully decriminalized abortion.\u00a0Those that have decriminalized it may allow abortion at varying times and for various reasons.<\/p>\n<p>In 1999, Guttmacher claimed, \u201cAbout 26 million women have legal abortions each year, and 20 million have abortions in countries where abortion is restricted or prohibited by law.\u201d\u00a0In March of 2022,\u00a0Guttmacher\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claimed<\/a>\u00a0(and the World Health Organization [WHO]\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreed<\/a>) that\u00a0<strong>73 million<\/strong>\u00a0babies are killed by abortion worldwide per year.<\/p>\n<p>While it is important to note that abortions are not included in total death counts, in 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/births-and-deaths\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/births-and-deaths&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1705521665293000&amp;usg=AOvVaw04bGvFtWhF0Rg-iLhOcpme\">Our World in Data<\/a> estimated that 69 million people died worldwide. At the same time, 2021 worldwide abortion estimates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/abortion\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/abortion&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1705521665293000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1KxXMgZnA-4uhgZQGnaHnE\">published<\/a>\u00a0by the WHO estimated 73M babies were killed by abortion globally that year.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, worldwide death counts published by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/births-and-deaths\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/births-and-deaths&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1705521665294000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0LleTSA2iW2b1c-IfHHjk2\">Our World in Data<\/a> totaled 61 million \u2014 far fewer than 2021. While 2023 global abortion data has not been published, it is likely that abortions would still outnumber other published deaths globally in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/new-study-mississippis-15-week-limit-on-abortion-in-the-mainstream-of-european-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 review<\/a>\u00a0of European countries by the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) found that\u00a0<i>47\u00a0out\u00a0of 50\u00a0<\/i>European nations limit elective abortion to prior to 15 weeks gestation.
