Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The move is being\u00a0fueled by <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/election-abortion-right-states\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-abortion wins<\/a> in multiple states during the recent election cycle where pro-life ballot measures failed and pro-abortion measures passed. These measures actually served to remove even the protections for preborn human beings that were in place <em>during<\/em> Roe. The strategy also involves pro-abortion efforts at the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-battlegrounds-city-councils-county-commissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local city and county levels<\/a> to deprioritize and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-funded-cities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fund abortion<\/a> and to target pro-life pregnancy help centers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In every state where voters were asked to weigh in directly on abortion rights, they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/11\/10\/1135719000\/several-state-ballot-measures-resulted-in-victories-for-abortion-rights-supporte\">supported measures<\/a>\u00a0that protect those rights and rejected initiatives that could threaten them,&#8221; reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/11\/10\/1135757008\/after-wins-at-the-ballot-abortion-rights-groups-want-to-put-this-to-the-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NPR<\/a> following the 2022 mid-terms. &#8220;Those victories have abortion rights advocates looking at where they can next take the fight directly to voters.&#8221; NPR is a notable <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/npr-media-slandering-pro-lifers-funded-abortion-soros\/\">pro-abortion<\/a> outlet.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s not mentioned by NPR is the fact that pro-abortion <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-deception-kansas-other-states\/\">propaganda<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-manipulated-voters-elections\/\">deception<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-york-times-misleads-kansas-defeat\/\">misinformation<\/a> can largely be credited for the success of these measures (as well as some significant funding from out-of-state <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/billionaries-money-michigan-abortion-amendment\/\">pro-abortion<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/bloomberg-spielberg-helped-defeat-amendment-kansas\/\">billionaires<\/a> like George Soros and Michael Bloomberg). Some of these states, as a result, now\u00a0label abortion as a &#8220;right,&#8221; removing any meaningful protections from humans in the womb <em>regardless of gestational age<\/em>. In other words, the measures are <em>even more pro-abortion<\/em> than <em>Roe<\/em> was.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Abortion advocates eye multiple states<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&#8220;Proponents of abortion rights are eyeing 10 states where citizens can mount initiatives to amend their state constitutions and where abortion access is currently restricted as possible battlegrounds for ballot measures,&#8221; CBS News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abortion-rights-ballot-measures-midterms-2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>This was confirmed by Anthony Romero, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/11\/10\/1135757008\/after-wins-at-the-ballot-abortion-rights-groups-want-to-put-this-to-the-people\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> NPR that the legal\u00a0group is looking at several states as potential targets for future ballot campaigns, including Ohio and Florida. In addition,\u00a0ACLU&#8217;s senior political strategist, Carolyn Ehrlich, said the ACLU had been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/news\/article\/Oklahoma-citizen-led-initiative-would-codify-17622264.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contacted<\/a> by partners in at least a dozen states regarding similar campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>The ACLU&#8217;s\u00a0enthusiasm for a culture of death was joined by\u00a0Kelly Hall, executive director of the Fairness Project, which is spearheading pro-abortion efforts in Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas and South Dakota, among others.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ballot measures, where they are available, offer citizens a workaround past ideological extremism, gridlock, the failure to govern, and in this instance, the opportunity to say, &#8216;Some rights are so fundamental, they need to be outside the political arena. We want these rights to be durable, to outlast any politicians&#8217; tenure. This belongs in our state constitution, this isn&#8217;t up to you,'&#8221; Hall <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abortion-rights-ballot-measures-midterms-2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CBS News. \u201cThey\u2019re starting now, because the process for getting any type of measure on the ballot takes a very long time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Only 17 states allow citizens, not just lawmakers, to initiate ballot proposals to amend the state constitution,&#8221;\u00a0reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\/en\/research-and-analysis\/blogs\/stateline\/2022\/11\/23\/buoyed-by-midterm-successes-abortion-rights-advocates-prepare-2024-ballot-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PewTrust.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Among those, abortion rights supporters in at least 10 states with abortion bans or tight restrictions \u2014 Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma and South Dakota \u2014 are already discussing strategies and tactics for putting abortion initiatives on the 2024 presidential election ballot,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewtrusts.org\/en\/research-and-analysis\/blogs\/stateline\/2022\/11\/23\/buoyed-by-midterm-successes-abortion-rights-advocates-prepare-2024-ballot-measures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PewTrust.org<\/a>\u00a0reported.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abortion-rights-ballot-measures-midterms-2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>\u00a0reported that pro-abortion activists are looking into initiatives in Colorado.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>States considering pro-abortion ballot initiatives<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Missouri<\/strong>: Abortion advocates in Missouri, which currently protects most preborn babies, are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcur.org\/politics-elections-and-government\/2022-12-01\/if-missouri-raises-bar-for-ballot-issues-it-would-be-harder-for-voters-to-change-abortion-ban\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">considering<\/a>\u00a0a 2024 pro-abortion ballot measure to repeal the state&#8217;s protections for preborn human beings.<\/p>\n<p>Julie Lynn, spokeswoman for Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri, told the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/news\/local\/govt-and-politics\/missouri-abortion-rights-supporters-opponents-weigh-ballot-questions-for-2024\/article_b89f0271-a394-5d2c-aa8d-178eab09fc58.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Louis Post Dispatch<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0\u201cpeople are looking at all options to try and regain access to abortion in Missouri, and that is one of the possibilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The Washington Post noted, &#8220;Republicans, who have a majority in the state legislature, are pushing efforts to make the initiative petition process more onerous.&#8221; Samuel Lee, director of the Campaign Life Missouri, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kmov.com\/2022\/11\/19\/will-missouri-voters-decide-abortion-ballot-measure-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> KMOV.com that the pro-life community is considering its own measure to protect preborn lives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New Jersey<\/strong>: Lawmakers were looking into a ballot measure for next year which would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/where-abortion-will-be-on-the-ballot-in-2024\/2022\/11\/27\/9e6a7388-6e5c-11ed-867c-8ec695e4afcd_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> the Washington Post. But the move received <a href=\"https:\/\/newjerseyglobe.com\/legislature\/opinion-we-have-the-right-now-expand-access\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">negative input<\/a> from mainstream pro-abortion groups, fearing the measure &#8220;would have produced an unintended adverse effect and potentially brought our right to abortion\u00a0<i>backwards<\/i>\u00a0in our state.&#8221; So it was <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/eIky-KB5meU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rescinded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ohio<\/strong>: The effort to codify a &#8216;right&#8217; to abortion in Ohio has already begun. According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2022\/11\/advocates-grapple-with-details-of-potential-constitutional-amendment-enshrining-abortion-rights-in-ohio-constitution.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cleveland.com<\/a>, &#8220;Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights, one of the groups involved, already is accepting contributions on its website to pay for a campaign to pass such a constitutional amendment. It established a political action committee for the effort on Aug. 15, less than two weeks after the ballot measure to remove abortion rights in Kansas was defeated.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We need your help to get abortion on the ballot in Ohio! Any amount is appreciated! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/MblBnhcdrT\">https:\/\/t.co\/MblBnhcdrT<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ohioreprorights?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ohioreprorights<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/prochoice?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#prochoice<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GivingTuesday2022?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GivingTuesday2022<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/QKfPsXl4nL\">pic.twitter.com\/QKfPsXl4nL<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Ohio Physicians for Reproductive Rights (@OhioReproRights) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OhioReproRights\/status\/1597474447656566784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 29, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>But according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.13abc.com\/2022\/11\/17\/ohio-gop-leaders-propose-increasing-threshold-citizen-led-ballot-initiatives\/?utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=snd&amp;utm_content=wtvg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">13ABC.com<\/a>, Republicans are pushing back. &#8220;Some top Ohio Republicans want to make it harder for citizens to lead ballot initiatives to enact constitutional amendments. Their goal is to raise the threshold to pass at the ballot box to 60% from its current 50%,&#8221; they reported.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oklahoma: <\/strong>An Oklahoma hair stylist and abortion activist,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/wireStory\/oklahoma-citizen-led-initiative-codify-abortion-access-94241128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roger Coody<\/a>, successfully <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MickeyDollens\/status\/1594828013841129477\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">filed<\/a> his pro-abortion measure with the secretary of state. If certified,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sos.ok.gov\/documents\/questions\/828.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">State Question 828<\/a>\u00a0would have added a &#8220;right to reproductive freedom&#8221; to the state constitution.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/journalrecord.com\/2022\/11\/22\/abortion-question-proposed-for-oklahoma-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Journal Record<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SQ 828 would \u201callow the state to regulate abortion after fetal viability, but not prohibit if medically needed to protect a patient\u2019s life or physical or mental health.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>SQ 828 would prohibit prosecution of an individual exercising reproductive freedom rights or anyone assisting another person enforcing those rights, thereby nullifying the provisions of House Bill 4327, which Gov. Kevin Stitt signed into law on May 26. HB 4327 is a copycat law, after a Texas measure, allowing any citizen to sue anyone believed to have performed an abortion or to have aided a pregnant person in obtaining an abortion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, just prior to publication, Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/okcfox.com\/news\/local\/oklahoma-petition-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-withdrawn-roger-coody-tulsa-california-vermont-kansas-kentucky-roe-wade-state-question-828-oklahoma-city-kevin-stitt-reproductive-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/okcfox.com\/news\/local\/oklahoma-petition-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-withdrawn-roger-coody-tulsa-california-vermont-kansas-kentucky-roe-wade-state-question-828-oklahoma-city-kevin-stitt-reproductive-rights&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1670692911029000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2buNn6c05P4mCPyRdfbEJG\">discovered<\/a> that the proposal was withdrawn with no explanation offered to the media. &#8220;Records show the proponents of the citizen-led initiative petition notified the Secretary of State\u2019s office on Wednesday of their plans to withdraw,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/okcfox.com\/news\/local\/oklahoma-petition-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-withdrawn-roger-coody-tulsa-california-vermont-kansas-kentucky-roe-wade-state-question-828-oklahoma-city-kevin-stitt-reproductive-rights\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/okcfox.com\/news\/local\/oklahoma-petition-to-enshrine-abortion-rights-withdrawn-roger-coody-tulsa-california-vermont-kansas-kentucky-roe-wade-state-question-828-oklahoma-city-kevin-stitt-reproductive-rights&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1670692911029000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2buNn6c05P4mCPyRdfbEJG\">reported <\/a>Fox25.<\/p>\n<p><strong>South Dakota<\/strong>: A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sdsos.gov\/elections-voting\/upcoming-elections\/general-information\/2022-ballot-questions.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024 proposal,<\/a>\u00a0initiated Richard P. Weiland of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dakotans4health.com\/codify-roe-v-wade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dakotans4fHealth.com<\/a>, would create a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atg.sd.gov\/docs\/ltr.Barnett%20Ballot%20Explenation%20Abortion%208.24.2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">right to abortion<\/a>\u00a0and &#8220;allow abortions through the first trimester of pregnancy,&#8221;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abortion-rights-ballot-measures-midterms-2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a> claimed. &#8220;In the second trimester, the state could regulate abortion only if it &#8216;reasonably&#8217; relates to the health of the mother,&#8221; CBS added.<\/p>\n<p>A plurality of South Dakotans <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/3702154-plurality-of-voters-support-south-dakota-abortion-ban-poll\/\">support the state&#8217;s current protections for preborn children<\/a>, according to polling from this summer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Texas:\u00a0<\/strong>Last month,\u00a0State Rep. James Talarico filed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legiscan.com\/TX\/text\/HJR56\/2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Joint Resolution 56 (HJR 56)<\/a>, which reads, &#8220;The legislature shall not pass a law\u00a0that abridges an individual&#8217;s access to abortion care if the\u00a0individual&#8217;s decision to access abortion care is made in\u00a0consultation with a licensed physician.&#8221; The &#8220;constitutional amendment\u00a0limiting the legislature&#8217;s ability to prohibit abortion&#8221; is to be submitted to the voters November 7, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, if a licensed physician who makes his or her living from committing abortions decides that he or she finds a patient&#8217;s decision to abort acceptable (which seems extremely likely, given the fact that <em>this is how the physician earns his or her living<\/em>), then the child can be legally killed. In such a case, this physician would stand to make income from the death of the child, which represents a conflict of interest.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Red states\u2014from Kansas to Kentucky\u2014have voted to protect abortion access.<\/p>\n<p>Today, I filed a bill to put abortion on the ballot in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Let the people decide. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wV9JmDmCT9\">pic.twitter.com\/wV9JmDmCT9<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; James Talarico (@jamestalarico) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/jamestalarico\/status\/1597660758191792128?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 29, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>&#8220;According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/tlc.texas.gov\/docs\/legref\/legislativeprocess.pdf\">Texas Legislative Council<\/a>, a joint resolution like the one introduced by Talarico would need to receive a two-thirds vote of the total membership of each chamber for adoption,&#8221; KXAN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/texas-politics\/texas-lawmaker-proposes-putting-abortion-referendum-on-ballot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Virginia:\u00a0<\/strong>Democrats who control the state Senate there &#8220;plan to advance legislation that would start a multiyear effort to enshrine the right to an abortion into the state constitution. But it would almost certainly be voted down in the GOP-controlled House,&#8221; reported <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Health\/wireStory\/oklahoma-citizen-led-initiative-codify-abortion-access-94241128\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Abortion activists acknowledge that pro-abortion ballot initiatives are one tool they plan to deploy to try and gain lost ground.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We did not get here by accident,&#8221; Sarah Standiford, national campaigns director for Planned Parenthood Action Fund,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/abortion-rights-ballot-measures-midterms-2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> CBS News. &#8220;The reality is there isn&#8217;t a magic bullet, but state action is what is required,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Pro-abortion legal experts agreed, telling PewTrust.Org that &#8220;ballot measures that enshrine abortion rights in state constitutions&#8221; are &#8220;the most enduring way to protect those rights from future political shifts.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pledge.liveaction.org\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=prolife_pledge\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-277267\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/pledge-live-action-ad-970x250-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pro-abortion ballot initiatives are being proposed for the 2023 and 2024 election cycles in an effort to thwart pro-life victories gained after the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe v.
