Abortion pills took the lives of nearly 500,000 preborn babies in 2020 while sales from the deadly pill regimen made up an astounding 53% of nationally reported abortion numbers, according to updated data\u00a0published<\/a> by Guttmacher Institute<\/a> researchers. The report entitled, “Abortion incidence and service availability in the United States, 2020,” also found that between 2017 and 2020, the share of “medication abortions” increased for all facility types.<\/p>\n

Numbers published by the FDA through\u00a0June of 2021<\/a>\u00a0reveal that the abortion pill has ended the lives of nearly\u00a05 million<\/strong>\u00a0preborn human beings since its\u00a0approval<\/a>\u00a0in 2000.<\/p>\n

National Abortion Totals<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guttmacher previously<\/a> reported a national total of 930,160 abortions in 2020<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0an increase of 67,840 over the\u00a0862,320\u00a0abortions reported in\u00a02017. This translates into\u00a02,548 preborn human beings killed every day\u00a0in the U.S. by\u00a0abortion<\/a> \u2014 approximately 106 per hour, 1.8 per minute, and one every 35 seconds.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a02020 data<\/a>\u00a0released<\/a>\u00a0by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), abortion numbers decreased slightly in 2020; abortion pill use, however, has increased by a whopping 154% since 2011. The report<\/a>\u00a0released November 25, 2o22, recorded\u00a0620,327 legally induced abortions reported to the CDC from 49 reporting areas.<\/p>\n

Abortion reporting data is not<\/em> required by federal law; therefore, the CDC relies solely on data from the states that individually require abortion reporting. Guttmacher gathers information differently, relying on responses to surveys it sends to abortionists; those overall numbers tend to be more comprehensive.<\/p>\n

Abortion Pill Numbers<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guttmacher<\/em><\/p>\n

“There were 492,210 medication abortions in 2020, a 45% increase from 2017,”\u00a0Guttmacher Institute researchers wrote in a report published<\/a>\u00a0on November 20. “Medication abortion accounted for the majority of all abortions in 2020 (53%), compared to 39% in 2017,” noted authors\u00a0Rachel K. Jones, Marielle Kirstein, and Jesse Philbin.<\/p>\n

“It is worth noting that there were 412,130 medication abortions in 2019,” the report entitled, “Abortion incidence and service availability in the United States, 2020,” stated. “The relative increase between 2019 and 2020 (19%) was only slightly lower than the one for the two-year period of 2017 and 2019 (21%),” the researchers added.<\/p>\n

NOTE: The\u00a0updated<\/em>\u00a0Guttmacher abortion pill numbers (492,210 v. 502,286) and percentage of national abortion (53% v. 54%) is slightly lower than what was\u00a0previously estimated<\/a>\u00a0by Live Action News.<\/p>\n

CDC<\/em><\/p>\n

Guttmacher’s percent of national abortion pill numbers was slightly higher than what was reported<\/a> by the CDC, which\u00a0defines<\/a> “Early medical abortion” as “the administration of medications (typically mifepristone followed by misoprostol) to induce an abortion at \u22649 completed weeks\u2019 gestation consistent with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) labeling for mifepristone that was implemented in 2016 (17).” This definition is outdated as the approved gestational limit for the abortion pill has now reached 10 weeks, or 70 days.<\/p>\n

The CDC reported that\u00a0among the 46 areas which reported by abortion procedure\u00a0type<\/em>\u00a0for 2020 and included the abortion pill on their reporting form, 51% of abortions were carried out by the abortion pill early in pregnancy.<\/p>\n

CDC and Guttmacher abortion pill numbers may not include<\/em> all online purchases and do not reflect abortion pill reversals.<\/p>\n

Abortion Pill Sales into Second Trimester<\/strong><\/p>\n

The abortion pill regimen (mifepristone and misoprostol) has only been approved by the FDA for use up to 70 days (10 weeks). But this has not stopped the abortion industry from dispensing the drugs into the 11th<\/a>, 12th, and even 14th week of pregnancy. The abortion pill is now being tested<\/a> with the goal of FDA approval up to 12 weeks (84 days).<\/p>\n

In 2020<\/a>, the CDC found that a total of 244,613\u00a0“medical” [abortion pill] abortions were reported from\u00a040 reporting areas by gestational age (excluding California, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York State, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin). Out of that number, the CDC found 235,020 “medical” abortions were committed at nine weeks or less from 40 reporting areas, and 8,645 were committed between 10 and 13 weeks.<\/p>\n

But that same year (2020)<\/a>, the CDC reported that nearly 950 \u201cmedical\u201d abortions were reported to have been committed\u00a0at or over<\/em>\u00a014 weeks of pregnancy, slightly higher than what was reported in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n
