(C-Fam, New York City<\/a>) The NGO Committee of the UN Commission on the Status of Women has issued participation guidelines which will have the effect of blocking pro-life and pro-family groups from an upcoming UN conference.<\/p>\n

Executives of pro-life and pro-family groups believe the guidelines were created precisely to keep them out of the upcoming Commission on the Status of Women.<\/p>\n

Called \u201cVirtual Safety Guidelines and Principles,\u201d the NGO Committee claims they are to ensure \u201ceveryone has a fulfilling experience during the NGO CSW Virtual Forum.\u201d Their goal is to \u201cmake this platform as inclusive and productive as possible\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Some guidelines are not controversial, such as \u201cbuild a culture of excellence, compassion, integrity, and honesty.\u201d Also, \u201callow everyone to participate. Don\u2019t dominate the conversation and honor time limits\u201d and \u201cshow empathy toward other participants.\u201d<\/p>\n

But then there are requirements to acknowledge \u201csexism, racism, classism, heterosexism, transphobia, global North domination and other institutional forms of oppression exist.\u201d Some of these are largely the ideologically loaded words and phrases of the sexual left.<\/p>\n

And then there is the ban on \u201cdeliberate intimidation\u201d, an admonition that seems only to work one way. Last year at a CSW preparatory event sponsored by UN Women, the governments of Denmark and Costa Rica and NGO CSW, C-Fam\u2019s Executive Vice President came under attack by a global abortion group. A representative from the Association for Women\u2019s Rights in Development (AWID) called for the expelling of all \u201canti-rights infiltrators\u201d from the United Nations.<\/p>\n
