We are currently reviewing this information.<\/i><span class=\"c-message__edited_label\" dir=\"ltr\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Students at the University of Massachusetts will now have access to chemical abortion pills on campus from the University Health Services (UHS). This follows the passage of a new law, sponsored by\u00a0Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa (D), which <em>requires<\/em> all UMass health centers to dispense abortion pills with financial assistance from taxpayers.<\/p>\n<p>The chemical abortion procedure is a two-step process that begins when the woman takes\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mifepristone, which blocks progesterone, starving the baby of the nutrients it needs to survive. Then she takes misoprostol, which triggers contractions and bleeding to expel the baby from her womb.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gnEHZiud8dg\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/center><center><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>URGENT:\u00a0<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/give.liveaction.org\/future-of-abortion\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=article&amp;utm_campaign=minibomb\"><b><i>For every dollar given, 34 more people can be reached with the truth about abortion. Will you join us in this life-saving work as a monthly donor today?<\/i><\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Achsah Dorsey, an assistant anthropology professor who teaches a course about women&#8217;s health on campus, spoke in favor of the abortion pill on campus. &#8220;Having access to medication abortion at UHS will certainly decrease the anxiety and stress that comes with identifying an abortion provider, organizing travel to and from, and knowing where they can go with questions or to receive additional help,\u201d Dorsey told <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycollegian.com\/2022\/10\/uhs-begins-offering-medical-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Massachusetts Daily Collegian<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But proponents of on-campus abortion distribution fail to consider what will happen to the student who finds herself alone, in pain, and bleeding as she undergoes the abortion process in a shared dorm bathroom.<\/p>\n<p>The abortion pill carries a myriad of risks and complications, including\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">severe cramping, contractions, and heavy bleeding, as well as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and headaches.\u00a0As Live Action News has previously reported, the abortion pill is reportedly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-four-times-dangerous-surgical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four times more dangerous<\/a>\u00a0than a surgical abortion, and one study has shown a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-rate-abortion-pill-er-visits-500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">500% increase<\/a>\u00a0in abortion-related emergency room visits as a result of increased use of the abortion pill. Students who undergo this process on campus because they do not have transportation to an off-site abortion facility will also find it difficult to travel to and from the hospital should any complications arise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>While the Daily Collegian interviewed a number of students who spoke in favor of the availability of chemical abortions on campus,\u00a0Kate Scott, president of UMass Students for Life, expressed her concerns.\u00a0\u201cChemical abortions end the life of a preborn child and severely harm the physical and mental well-being of the mother,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Students for Life had <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-fight-abortion-pill-umass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously announced<\/a> that it would fight the abortion pill&#8217;s arrival on campus, and increase awareness about the dangers and risks it poses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pledge.liveaction.org\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=prolife_pledge\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-277267 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/pledge-live-action-ad-970x250-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Editor\u2019s Note, 2\/6\/24: Live Action News has been informed that the Lozier study which is referred to in this article has been\u00a0retracted\u00a0by SagePub, where the study is available for download.
