Yasmin Vossoughian of MSNBC recently hosted a panel discussion<\/a> entitled, \u201cLet\u2019s Talk About Abortion Rights,\u201d featuring Mini Timmaraju<\/a>, President of NARAL; Emily Albrecht<\/a>, Director of Education & Outreach at the Equal Rights Institute; and Dr. Kameelah Phillips<\/a>, founder of Calla Women\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n

The semantics themselves were definitely the most fascinating \u2013 and ominous \u2013 aspect of the conversation. A careful consideration of the abortion advocates\u2019 word choices \u2013 and their \u201ccorrection\u201d of the sole pro-lifer\u2019s language \u2013 reveals much about their not-so-hidden agenda and the tactics they are using to achieve it.<\/p>\n

Tactic one: Manufacturing meaning via phony phrases<\/h3>\n

Timmaraju began by referencing \u201ca constitutional legal right\u201d to abortion, even though the Supreme Court has already determined that such a thing does not exist. Indeed, even the title of the program referenced \u201cabortion rights\u201d \u2013 a non-entity. Abortion is the intentional killing of an innocent human being. No one has a right<\/em> to engage in such behavior, no matter the circumstances.<\/p>\n

But abortion advocates really<\/em> want the American public to believe that such a right does<\/em> exist, because practically everyone, especially the average American, opposes government interference with people\u2019s free exercise of their rights. This is why they insist on using such terminology \u2013 in this case, quite literally.<\/p>\n

Although Timmaraju used the phrase \u201cpro-choice\u201d just moments beforehand, when Albrecht used pro-choice\/pro-life terminology, Vossoughian stepped in to correct her, telling her she would prefer that Albrecht use the terminology of \u201cpro-abortion rights\/anti-abortion rights.\u201d<\/p>\n

The reason for this is obvious: it paints a clear portrait of who the heroes and villains are supposed to be. After all, who wants to be anti-rights of any kind? Clearly the good guys in that paradigm are the pro-rights champions \u2013 at least, this is what abortion advocates want you to think.<\/p>\n
