Late-term abortionist LeRoy Carhart<\/a> is attempting to open a new abortion facility, but pro-life resistance is mounting in an effort to stop him.<\/p>\n

According to the Catholic News Agency<\/a> (CNA), Clinics for Abortion and Reproductive Excellence (C.A.R.E.) \u2014 of which Carhart serves as medical director \u2014 is attempting to raise money<\/a> to open a third facility, to be located in Pueblo, Colorado. Carhart has existing facilities in Bellevue, Nebraska, and Bethesda, Maryland. Part of the motivation to open an abortion business in Colorado is due to that state’s support of unlimited abortion, and the possibility that Nebraska lawmakers may pass legislation protecting preborn children from abortion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must ensure that we will maintain access in the Midwest should Nebraska lose access,\u201d C.A.R.E. wrote in its fundraising appeal.<\/p>\n

Tamra Axworthy, CEO of the ACPC Women\u2019s Clinic pregnancy resource center (PRC) in Pueblo, told CNA that Carhart’s facility will open in the Bessemer neighborhood, a working-class residential area which the Pueblo government website describes<\/a> as “ethnically diverse.” Abortion businesses have long been criticized for seeming to prefer to place their facilities in low-income, minority neighborhoods. She also added that pro-life activists are working to try to stop the facility from opening.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re hopeful that if we can\u2019t shut it down in the court of public opinion, that we can at least ensure that he follows every possible code and regulation to open up that facility,\u201d she said. \u201cHe sees this as a community that\u2019s going to welcome and support him, and that is not what he\u2019s going to get.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carhart is currently being investigated<\/a> by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, after a complaint was filed due to a botched abortion earlier this year that left the patient with severe injuries. Surgeons allegedly had to work for hours to save her, and she coded at least once. Yet this is far from the only botched abortion he is responsible for; he has a long history<\/a> of injuring women, and has killed at least two: Christin Gilbert<\/a> and Jennifer Morbelli<\/a>. He also is the subject of two medical malpractice<\/a> lawsuits.<\/p>\n

And Axworthy wants the community to know just who exactly is moving in. They are working on building a website so people can learn Carhart’s history, which will be printed on postcard mailers sent to residents. \u201cIt\u2019s important for our community to know who this guy is,” she said, “and that he\u2019s bad news for Pueblo.”<\/p>\n
