Planned Parenthood has launched a <\/span>\u201c<\/span>first of its kind<\/span><\/a>“ research and training center aimed at dismantling any and all barriers to obtaining an abortion, especially for minors and persons with disabilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Announced in June, the ASPIRE Center, short for Advancing Science and Practice through Innovations in Research and Education, formally launched in early October. An initiative of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM), the center\u2019s mission, according to a <\/span>Planned Parenthood Action press release<\/span><\/a>, is to expand \u201ceducation, research, and clinical training\u201d with a focus on \u201cbarriers\u201d to obtaining abortions, especially among youth, the disabled, and people of color \u2013 even though women of color are already disproportionately <\/span>targeted<\/span><\/a> by <\/span>Planned Parenthood<\/span>, accounting for <\/span>38% of all abortions committed<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0the highest abortion rate of all <\/span>demographics<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The center also plans to partner with Brigham and Women\u2019s Hospital and Harvard Medical School to train more OB\/GYNs to commit abortions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The abortion giant\u2019s initiative comes in the aftermath of the landmark Supreme Court decision in <\/span>Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization<\/span><\/i><\/a>, which reversed<\/span> Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i> and returned the question of abortion\u2019s legal status to the states. According to a <\/span>New York Times<\/span> tracker<\/span><\/a>, at least 13 states have near-complete protections for preborn babies in the womb, with several other pro-life state laws temporarily blocked, pending adjudication in court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

PPLM director and CEO Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak framed the ASPIRE center\u2019s mission as a need to confront the success of pro-life laws and advocacy in states around the country. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMassachusetts is a strong access state for abortion, and PPLM is the leader in providing abortion care, but with Roe v. Wade<\/em> overturned, our role in the fight for reproductive freedom and abortion access is much bigger,\u201d said Dr. Childs-Roshak said, according to <\/span>MassLive.com<\/span><\/a>. \u201cThat\u2019s why the time to launch and leverage ASPIRE is now.\u201d In August, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed into law a sweeping <\/span>codification of abortion<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

According to the press release, the center will also aim to \u201cnormalize\u201d abortion and fight against pro-life state laws: \u201cASPIRE will be able to streamline and expand education efforts in our communities about sexual and reproductive health care, normalize abortion through conversations, and communicate the danger of anti-abortion laws through research.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The ASPIRE initiative seeks to continue to advance the <\/span>false narrative<\/span><\/a> that abortion is \u201chealth care,\u201d but the fact remains that an induced abortion \u2013 the direct and <\/span>intentional killing of a preborn baby<\/span><\/a> \u2013 is <\/span>not medically necessary<\/span><\/a>. Framing the misleadingly-named ASPIRE initiative as a noble endeavor belies the reality that Planned Parenthood profits from the violence of abortion \u2014 and that pro-life laws directly threaten its bottom line.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
