However, many Jews <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/choose-life-jewish-case-against-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disagree with this interpretation of Jewish law<\/a>\u00a0and theologically defend the idea that abortion is murder.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Ben Potash, who is representing the plaintiffs, says that the Kentucky law is \u201cusing a very specific philosophical and religious understanding about what the moment of humanness is.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is a very specific religious understanding from a very specific group of folks,\u201d Potash <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/wnLyy#selection-1301.98-1309.204\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cSimply put, it\u2019s just not our belief, and we\u2019re having that belief imposed upon us by the legislature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/indiana-pro-life-law-challenged-religious-freedom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Indiana pro-life law challenged on grounds that it violates religious freedom<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My freedom to practice my religion has been stolen. Kentucky&#8217;s abortion laws are cruel and they must be overturned,&#8221; said Lisa Sobel, one of the plaintiffs.<\/p>\n<p>Despite this claim, the beginning of life is clearly defined by science \u2014 not religion.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/40-quotes-from-medical-experts-that-prove-human-life-begins-at-conception\/\">Life does begin at the moment of fertilization<\/a>\u00a0(sometimes referred to as conception) when sperm meets egg and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/science-confirms-that-human-life-begins-at-fertilization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a new human is created<\/a>\u00a0with his or her own unique DNA, distinct from that of his or her parents.<\/p>\n<p>There is never a religious right to kill another human being.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jnAbwc_pHSY\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The women also claim that the law will punish them for miscarrying or inhibit their ability to undergo in vitro fertilization, as it may be more difficult for women to undergo &#8220;selective reduction&#8221; during the IVF process. While there is no indication in the law that this could happen, as Live Action News has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ivf-fertility-selective-reduction-peril-roe-fall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously pointed out<\/a>, &#8220;selective reduction&#8221; is a eugenic practice in which unwanted children are aborted. IVF as a whole views children as a commodity, to be created and destroyed at the whims of adults, rather than as unique individuals with their own inherent rights and dignity.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My greatest fear is that I become pregnant, go to a scan and they say you&#8217;re baby&#8217;s incompatible with life and we can&#8217;t help you,&#8221; said Jessica Kalb, one of the plaintiffs. &#8220;That&#8217;s the reality right now in our state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Again, treatments for miscarriage and life-threatening situations like ectopic pregnancy are <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/treatments-miscarriage-ectopic-legal-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">still legal<\/a> in every state. But thanks to Kentucky&#8217;s law, <em>all<\/em>\u00a0preborn children in the state are given the chance at life. Even if a child receives a life-limiting diagnosis in the womb, the law allows that child to be born and offered his or her parents&#8217; love and comfort, care, and every medical chance at life instead of being brutally killed before birth.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General Daniel Cameron responded to the lawsuit in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wlky.com\/article\/jewish-women-kentucky-abortion-ban-religious-freedom\/41546197#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cAlthough we have not received the complaint, I am committed to defending Kentucky\u2019s pro-life laws,\u201d he said. \u201cThe General Assembly has made it clear that Kentucky will protect unborn life and these laws are an important part of the Commonwealth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pledge.liveaction.org\/?utm_source=lan&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=prolife_pledge\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-277267\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/pledge-live-action-ad-970x250-700x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three Jewish women are suing the state of Kentucky over its law protecting preborn children from abortion, claiming that the law violates their religious freedom.
