Catholic leaders are responding to President Biden after he claimed that the Church doesn\u2019t oppose legislative exceptions for rape and incest.\u00a0<\/span>His Thursday comments came as criticism of Sen. Lindsey Graham\u2019s (R-S.C.) 15-week protections for preborn children, which actually does contain exceptions despite what Biden suggested.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou have Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and others talking about how they\u2019re gonna, you know, make sure that Roe is forever gone and Dobbs becomes a national law,\u201d Biden <\/span>reportedly said<\/span><\/a> at a fundraiser in New York.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cTalk about, what, no exceptions. Rape, incest, no exceptions,\u201d the president added. \u201cNow, I\u2019m gonna deal with my generic point. I happen to be a practicing Roman Catholic; my church doesn\u2019t even make that argument.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But the Catholic Church has repeatedly affirmed the inviolable dignity of human life and it\u2019s unclear why Biden is implying it favors exceptions. The <\/span>Catholic Catechism states<\/span><\/a>: \u201cSince the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Cardinal Wilton Gregory <\/span>reportedly said<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0\u201cThe Catholic Church teaches, and has taught, that life \u2014 human life \u2014 begins at conception\u201d and that “the president is not demonstrating Catholic teaching.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A day after Biden\u2019s comments, Bishop Tobin of Pittsburgh tweeted: \u201cPresident Biden cannot be both a devout Catholic and a pro-abortion zealot. The two are mutually exclusive. He is a poor, lost and confused soul. Truly, we need to pray for him, everyday.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
