The move follows a June decision by the United States Supreme Court to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, enabling states to determine if they want to rise up and protect the preborn child, or whether they will allow preborn life to be executed by violent abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Since <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/2020-planned-parenthood-record-breaking-abortions-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2000<\/a>, Planned Parenthood has committed almost 6.4 million abortions and received $9.3 billion from taxpayers.<\/p>\n<h3>Albuquerque, New Mexico<\/h3>\n<p>In August, the Albuquerque\u00a0City Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/2524808\/council-leaves-planned-parenthood-funding-intact.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">voted<\/a>\u00a0to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/albuquerque-planned-parenthood-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">send<\/a> $250,000 to Planned Parenthood.\u00a0City Councilors Isaac Benton, Pat Davis, Tammy Fiebelkorn, Trudy Jones, and Klarissa Pe\u00f1a voted for the bill that funded Planned Parenthood. As Live Action News previously\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/albuquerque-planned-parenthood-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, Albuquerque&#8217;s Department Director of Family and Community Services Carol Pierce claimed the funds would go toward services like wellness visits, breast exams, STD testing, and cancer screenings, despite the fact that those services at Planned Parenthood have been on the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/planned-parenthood-womens-health-plummeting-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">decline<\/a>,\u00a0while abortion and taxpayer funding is on the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/2020-planned-parenthood-record-breaking-abortions-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Atlanta, Georgia<\/h3>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-battlegrounds-city-councils-county-commissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June<\/a>, the Atlanta City Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reporternewspapers.net\/2022\/06\/22\/atlanta-says-no-city-funds-will-be-used-to-investigate-abortion-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">approved<\/a>\u00a0a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantacityga.iqm2.com\/Citizens\/Detail_LegiFile.aspx?Frame=&amp;MeetingID=3608&amp;MediaPosition=14209.343&amp;ID=30067&amp;CssClass=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0stressing that no city funds will be used to investigate abortion, and that police will make investigations of possible illegal abortion their lowest priority. A separate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/citycouncil.atlantaga.gov\/standing-committees\/meeting-agendas\/agenda\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0allowed the city of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/tag\/us\/ga\/atlanta\">Atlanta<\/a>\u00a0to donate\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/atlantacityga.iqm2.com\/Citizens\/FileOpen.aspx?Type=15&amp;ID=3424&amp;Inline=True\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$300,000<\/a>\u00a0to pro-abortion organizations, like <a href=\"https:\/\/atlanta.capitalbnews.org\/abortion-fund-atlanta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Access for Reproductive Care Southeast<\/a>. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/tag\/organization\/atlanta-city-council\">Atlanta City Council<\/a>\u00a0passed the resolution on the consent agenda unanimously and without any objection. The money will pay for things such as rides to abortion appointments, abortion travel, and accommodations for women seeking abortions, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5atlanta.com\/news\/atlanta-city-council-roe-v-wade-abortion-reproductive-health-women\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This week, the Atlanta City Council approved a resolution to make a $300,000 donation to Access Reproductive Care Southeast, a nonprofit abortion fund. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/vdcQXhrVdy\">https:\/\/t.co\/vdcQXhrVdy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; WABE News (@wabenews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wabenews\/status\/1555983294331854848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 6, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h3>Austin, Texas<\/h3>\n<p>In June, CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2019\/09\/10\/politics\/austin-city-funds-abortion-access\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, &#8220;An amendment in the city\u2019s 2020 budget will set aside $150,000 for &#8216;logistical and supportive services for abortion access&#8217; such as &#8216;transportation, child care, case management, and other services as needed,&#8217; the amendment reads. The amendment was added to the budget with only one objector before the council \u2013 which includes the mayor as a voting member.&#8221; It passed 10-1.<\/p>\n<h3>Baltimore City, Maryland<\/h3>\n<p>In June,\u00a0Mayor Brandon M. Scott <a href=\"https:\/\/mayor.baltimorecity.gov\/news\/press-releases\/2022-06-24-mayor-scott-allocates-300000-abortion-and-family-planning-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that the &#8220;City of Baltimore would provide $300,000 in grants to organizations that offer abortion and family planning services.&#8221; Mayor Scott called the move &#8220;crucial&#8221; describing it as an investment and claiming the city was &#8220;morally obligated to make Baltimore a safe haven for care-seekers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earlier in June, the City Council passed a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/baltimore.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5692131&amp;GUID=76673A9E-CB9B-4FE2-9224-869BA1F7DB6E&amp;Options=ID%7CText%7C&amp;Search=abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0to designate Baltimore City as an Abortion Rights Protection Jurisdiction and improve abortion care capacity in preparation for an increase in the number of out-of-state patients seeking to terminate a pregnancy,&#8221; the release also stated.<\/p>\n<h3>Bloomington, Indiana<\/h3>\n<p>In August, Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton laid out the <a href=\"https:\/\/bloomington.in.gov\/news\/2022\/08\/29\/5283\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 budget<\/a>, which would include, &#8220;up to $2,500 in travel and lodging expenses for employees to travel out of state for an abortion.&#8221; The move is in response to\u00a0Indiana\u2019s state legislature&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/iga.in.gov\/legislative\/2022ss1\/bills\/senate\/1#document-ea18ee28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enactment<\/a> of SB1, which prohibits most abortions.<\/p>\n<h3>Chicago, Illinois<\/h3>\n<p>In August, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/chicago-mayor-city-abortion-oasis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the city an abortion oasis, issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/city\/en\/depts\/mayor\/press_room\/press_releases\/2022\/september\/DepartmentPublicHealthJusticeForAllInitiative.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> vowing $500,000 in taxpayer dollars to be split between the Chicago Abortion Fund and Planned Parenthood of Illinois, paid for by the Chicago Department of Public Health. As Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/chicago-mayor-protect-abortionists-abortion-oasis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> pointed out, Planned Parenthood has a troubling history of injuring women in Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The City is committed to supporting access to reproductive healthcare\u00a0for\u00a0not only Chicagoans, but also non-Chicago residents seeking safe, legal care from states that have or ultimately will severely restrict or ban abortion. The fund would be used to &#8220;cover travel, logistics, and lodging expenses for Cleveland residents and City employees seeking a legal abortion in a nearby state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Columbus, Ohio<\/h3>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/avalanche-city-ordinances-target-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July<\/a>, the Columbus City Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/columbus.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5737208&amp;GUID=E082BDF6-9369-4DC8-99EC-FA4B153FE76C&amp;Options=ID|Text|&amp;Search=Pro-choice+ohio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allocated<\/a>\u00a0over $26,000 to Pro-Choice Ohio, originally\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20060103152441\/http:\/\/www.prochoiceohio.org\/s08aboutus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">founded<\/a>\u00a0as a NARAL affiliate, to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/columbus-ordinance-abortion-group-examine-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">investigate<\/a>\u00a0 pregnancy resource centers and\u00a0determine whether \u201cresidents of the City of Columbus have access to medically accurate and legal reproductive health information.\u201d\u00a0As Live Action News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/columbus-ordinance-abortion-group-examine-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a>\u00a0documented,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Legislation-Details-With-Text-contract-Prochoice-Ohio.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordinance<\/a>\u00a0language claimed that \u201cthere is a need for determining if crisis pregnancy centers provide effective, accurate, and comprehensive information and services in their crisis pregnancy centers in Columbus.\u201d The ordinance authorizes the city clerk to \u201center into a non-profit service agreement with Pro-Choice Ohio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/columbus-ordinance-abortion-group-examine-pregnancy-centers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">same month<\/a>, the Council\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/city-columbus-pregnancy-donates-million-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a>\u00a0an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/columbus.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5737189&amp;GUID=B1FA7E2A-F284-4061-95AC-BC1B51BD3AF5&amp;Options=ID|Text|&amp;Search=abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordinance<\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Legislation-Details-With-Text-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">authorizes<\/a>\u00a0the director of the Department of Finance and Management to enter into grant agreements of $1 million dollars with Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio and the Ohio Women\u2019s Alliance to \u201d\u00a0provide practical support and medically accurate and legal reproductive health information to residents of the City of Columbus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They do not define what \u201cmedically accurate\u201d means.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ: <em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/state-stand-abortion-roe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Where does your state stand on abortion after Roe?<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bT1QlZlkh8M\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the ordinance supports \u201caccess to reproductive healthcare,\u201d it claims it \u201cdoes not include the use of public funds to subsidize abortion procedures and associated services such as anesthesia, laboratory tests, or hospital services.\u201d It does fund \u201cpatient support expenses\u201d which include \u201cinformation hotlines, peer support, and case management; community education and engagement regarding reproductive health; and operational needs of the grantees stemming from providing such supports to the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ohiowomensalliance.org\/owa-blog\/2022\/7\/22\/columbus-city-council-grants-500000-to-owa-amp-afo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a>\u00a0from Ohio Women\u2019s Alliance notes that the City \u201cwill grant $500,000 to partially fund the Member Assistance Program (MAP) established by Ohio Women\u2019s Alliance (OWA) and Abortion Fund of Ohio (AFO) (formerly Women Have Options) to protect Ohioans\u2019 access to full-range reproductive health care.\u201d According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dispatch.com\/story\/news\/2022\/07\/22\/columbus-city-council-caucus-proposes-abortion-access-legislation\/10126798002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Columbus Dispatch<\/a>, the\u00a0fund would\u00a0be paid for through the city\u2019s Reimagining Safety Fund and Citywide Transfer Fund.<\/p>\n<h3>Fresno, California<\/h3>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvpr.org\/local-news\/2022-08-19\/city-of-fresno-approves-passing-through-state-funds-allocated-for-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August<\/a>,\u00a0the Fresno City Council voted 5-1 to pass a resolution\u00a0to serve as a pass-through entity for $9.5 million in state funds designated for local non-profits, including $1 million earmarked for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvpr.org\/local-news\/2022-08-19\/city-of-fresno-approves-passing-through-state-funds-allocated-for-planned-parenthood\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KVPR.org<\/a> claimed. The move\u00a0was a state budget request secured by Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula (D\u2013Fresno), according to <a href=\"https:\/\/sjvsun.com\/news\/fresno\/dyer-vetoes-arambulas-1mil-grant-to-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SJVSun.com<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">FRESNO CITY COUNCIL TO GIVE PLANNED PARENTHOOD (THE ABORTION CLINIC) $1,000,000 NEXT WEEK. The resolution declares,\u00a0\u201creproductive rights are fundamental human rights and criminalizing access to reproductive rights is a form of discrimination against women, girls and others who can become pregnant.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Minneapolis, Minnesota<\/h3>\n<p>Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey&#8217;s\u00a0proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/stories.opengov.com\/minneapolismn\/published\/Zdrnvs_3o-y\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 budget<\/a> recommends the creation of a $300,000 one-time fund to support abortion access within the city. The move was <a href=\"https:\/\/thestarnewsnetwork.com\/2022\/07\/29\/minneapolis-mayor-frey-loves-proposal-to-fund-abortions-with-city-budget\/?feed_id=4375&amp;_unique_id=62e410ec09f95\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">initiated<\/a> by pro-abortion organizations that initially requested $800,000 for the \u201cFund Reproductive Care Minneapolis\u201d project.<\/p>\n<h3>Montgomery County, Maryland<\/h3>\n<p>Montgomery County Executive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MontCoExec\/status\/1565444447789252611\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marc Elrich<\/a>\u00a0recently\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/MDMONTGOMERY\/bulletins\/32a969f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that the county is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/4e4k-GBWoQk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">committing<\/a>\u00a0$1 million for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wtop.com\/montgomery-county\/2022\/09\/montgomery-co-commits-1-million-for-grants-to-abortion-service-providers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grants<\/a>\u00a0to fund abortionists in the County. The media outlet said the group has not nailed down where the funds would come from but said they are seeking a \u201cmemorandum of understanding with a community partner like Planned Parenthood.\u201d They added, \u201c$200,000 would go to sex education; $150,000 would go to sex supplies, like condoms; and $150,000 would help people access abortions outside Tennessee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cities-pro-abortion-funnel-millions-taxpayer-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previously<\/a> documented that, according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nashville.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-09\/Budget-and-Finance-Committee_9.6.pdf?ct=1662048608\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metro Council agenda<\/a>,\u00a0the City Council wants to grant Planned Parenthood $500,000. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nashville.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5808078&amp;GUID=DB065798-E1B0-402B-9AAC-F6EFBBC3F1B8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measure<\/a>,\u00a0sponsored by council members\u00a0Delishia Porterfield,\u00a0Sandra Sepulveda,\u00a0Emily Benedict,\u00a0Ginny Welsch,\u00a0Freddie O\u2019Connell, and Bob Mendes, has now been referred to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nashville.legistar.com\/LegislationDetail.aspx?ID=5808078&amp;GUID=DB065798-E1B0-402B-9AAC-F6EFBBC3F1B8&amp;FullText=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">October 4th<\/a>\u00a0Budget and Finance Committee, where members will decide if they will appropriate \u201cfive-hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) from the unencumbered balance of appropriations to the Metropolitan Council Office [$100,000], Mayor\u2019s Office [$100,000], and Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure [300,000] for the purpose of funding a grant to Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution passed in October. Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nashville-approves-500k-grant-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/nashville-approves-500k-grant-planned-parenthood\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1665642827175000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3x0DyDG7gkjApaAJLtV0wL\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>New York City, New York<\/h3>\n<p>On September 13, 2022, Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and the city council&#8217;s Women\u2019s Caucus\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/council.nyc.gov\/press\/2022\/09\/13\/2254\/\">announced<\/a>\u00a0what they described as &#8220;the largest commitment of municipal funds by any city in the United States.&#8221; The\u00a0New York City Council\u00a0is providing $1 million towards expanding access to abortion to be &#8220;divided equally between the New York Abortion Access Fund (NYAAF), which supports anyone who is unable to fully pay for an abortion and is living in or traveling to New York, and the Brigid Alliance, which provides logistical support (travel, lodging, childcare, etc.) for people seeking abortions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Philadelphia, Pennsylvania<\/h3>\n<p>In August,\u00a0Mayor Jim Kenney and city leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/2022-08-04-mayor-kenney-announces-500000-in-funding-for-abortion-liberation-fund-of-pa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> that &#8220;the City of Philadelphia will provide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/news\/philadelphia\/philadelphia-abortion-liberation-donation-20220804.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$500,000 in funding<\/a> for the Abortion Liberation Fund of PA (ALF-PA), which provides emergency financial assistance to people seeking an abortion they are unable to use their insurance to cover and cannot afford.&#8221;\u00a0Founded in 1985 in response to the Pennsylvania General Assembly eliminating Medicaid funding for abortions, &#8220;ALF-PA has provided funding to thousands of individuals seeking abortions, including more than 3,200 people in fiscal year 2021,&#8221; the news release also stated. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/philadelphia\/philadelphia-sued-over-donation-to-abortion-fund-20220819.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Philadelphia Inquirer<\/a>, a lawsuit has been filed against the city challenging the funding move.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Two Philadelphia residents backed by a conservative law firm sued the city and Mayor Jim Kenney this week, claiming a planned six-figure donation to an abortion fund violates state law. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6UjcRnqU8v\">https:\/\/t.co\/6UjcRnqU8v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; The Philadelphia Inquirer (@PhillyInquirer) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PhillyInquirer\/status\/1560729499968438273?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 19, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/div>\n<h3>Seattle, Washington<\/h3>\n<p>In June, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/harrell.seattle.gov\/2022\/06\/24\/mayor-harrell-statement-on-scotus-abortion-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0his administration would seek \u201cto invest $250,000 in efforts to expand access to reproductive health care&#8230;\u201d In August, the City <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitolhillseattle.com\/2022\/08\/seattle-mayor-signs-suite-of-abortion-protection-legislation-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a>\u00a0multiple measures to make the city a <a href=\"https:\/\/mynorthwest.com\/3597516\/mayor-signs-bill-package-expanding-abortion-protections-access-seattle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sanctuary for abortion<\/a>, including CB 120366, which allocates, &#8220;$250,000 of city funds to fund expanded access to reproductive healthcare by making an investment in Northwest Abortion Access Fund.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The city is also maintaining a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattle.gov\/council\/issues\/protecting-abortion-access\">Protecting Abortion Access in Seattle<\/a>\u00a0page to keep track of legislative updates and to link to resources. It includes statistics documenting the scale of need for the health service \u2014 there were more than 16,000 abortions reported in Washington in 2020 \u2014 and the challenges people here may face including around 10% of women living in a Washington county without an abortion provider, according to a 2017 report,&#8221; CapitolHillSeattle.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitolhillseattle.com\/2022\/08\/seattle-mayor-signs-suite-of-abortion-protection-legislation-into-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>St. Louis, Missouri<\/h3>\n<p>In July, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlouis-mo.gov\/government\/departments\/mayor\/news\/reproductive-equity-fund.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news release<\/a>, &#8220;Mayor Tishaura O. Jones signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stlouis-mo.gov\/government\/city-laws\/board-bills\/boardbill.cfm?bbDetail=true&amp;BBId=14073\">Board Bill 61<\/a>, creating a Reproductive Equity Fund to support St. Louisans at every stage of pregnancy. The fund will support local providers offering postpartum support, lactation help, doula assistance, and access to abortion through logistical support.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>In July, Missouri&#8217;s Attorney General\u00a0Eric Schmitt\u00a0sued the city, arguing that the measure, which\u00a0CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/07\/22\/us\/missouri-ag-sues-st-louis-abortion-travel-funds\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0would set aside $1 million for abortion logistical support, violates state law. \u201cIn managing that fund, public employees will be assisting or encouraging abortion by processing claims for public funds to cover costs incurred in obtaining abortions,\u201d Schmitt said in a written statement.<\/p>\n<h2>States that fund abortion<\/h2>\n<h3>California<\/h3>\n<p>In June, the\u00a0California state budget allocated $20 million to the Abortion Practical Support Fund, a public-private fund that provides grants to nonprofit organizations that help low-income Californians obtain an abortion,\u00a0CNN <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/09\/01\/politics\/california-abortion-bills-legislative-package-newsom\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported.<\/a>\u00a0In addition,\u00a0the state created a website,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abortion.ca.gov\/your-rights\/your-legal-right-to-an-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abortion.ca.gov<\/a>, as part of the governor\u2019s pledge to make California a sanctuary for women seeking abortions, and has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/politics\/need-an-abortion-california-is-ready-to-help-newsom-puts-billboards-in-republican-states\/ar-AA11SERG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">placed billboards<\/a> in Republican states directing women to the website. It lists the location of 166 abortion facilities statewide, and according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/news\/us\/california-launches-taxpayer-funded-website-promoting-state-e2-80-99s-abortion-services\/ar-AA11NjX2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media reports<\/a>, the website &#8220;lets teenagers in other states know they don&#8217;t need their parents&#8217; permission to get an abortion in the state.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Maryland<\/h3>\n<p>Earlier this year, lawmakers in the state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/11\/1091967163\/abortion-rights-health-insurance-larry-hogan-maryland-veto-fetus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed<\/a> House Bill 937, known as the Abortion Care Access Act, which allocates\u00a0$3.5 million a year for abortion training.\u00a0The purpose of the program is to &#8220;expand the number of health care professionals with abortion care training and increase the racial and ethnic diversity among health care professionals with abortion care training.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Massachusetts<\/h3>\n<p>In June, MassLive.com <a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/politics\/2022\/06\/roe-v-wade-overturned-massachusetts-lawmakers-may-allocate-more-funding-for-abortion-reproductive-health-care-providers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>, &#8220;The Massachusetts Senate&#8230;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.masslive.com\/politics\/2022\/05\/massachusetts-senate-proposes-2-million-in-fiscal-2023-budget-for-abortion-care-with-roe-v-wade-in-jeopardy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allocated $2 million<\/a>\u00a0to cover security infrastructure at reproductive health care facilities. The House of Representatives, meanwhile, approved $500,000 in its fiscal 2023 budget.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>New Mexico<\/h3>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-mexico-governor-designates-10m-state-funded-abortion-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August<\/a>, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.state.nm.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Executive-Order-2022-123.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a>\u00a0directing the Department of Finance and Administration to designate $10 million for a state-funded abortion facility. The Albuquerque Journal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abqjournal.com\/2528671\/governor-issues-order-pledging-nm-resources-to-expand-abortion-access.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>\u00a0that the abortion facility would be built \u201cin Do\u00f1a Ana County \u2014 likely in or around Las Cruces,\u201d and would come from \u201cinfrastructure funding allocated annually by the governor.\u201d The paper also noted that the &#8220;pledged funding could be largely contingent on the outcome of the November general election.\u201d Read more at Live Action News <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-mexico-governor-designates-10m-state-funded-abortion-facility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>New York<\/h3>\n<p>Earlier in the year, New York Governor Kathy Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-hochul-announces-nation-leading-35-million-investment-support-abortion-providers-new\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0the state was allocating $35 million to support the abortion industry.<\/p>\n<h3>Oregon<\/h3>\n<p>In March 2022, Oregon\u00a0Gov. Kate Brown (D) created a $15 million reproductive health equity fund through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/olis.oregonlegislature.gov\/liz\/2022R1\/Measures\/Overview\/HB5202\">HB 5202<\/a>. &#8220;The funds will cover supports such as travel and lodging for patients and expand provider network capacity,&#8221;\u00a0according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/expanding-access-and-protections-in-states-where-abortion-is-legal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AmericanProgress.org<\/a>.\u00a0&#8220;The funds could be administered to health care providers who are looking to increase their supports and infrastructure, buy more equipment, expand their workforce, and workforce development,&#8221; An Do, the executive director of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ppaoregon.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Planned Parenthood Advocates<\/a>\u00a0of Oregon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kezi.com\/news\/local\/oregon-lawmakers-approve-15-million-for-expanded-abortion-access\/article_f2fe5e8a-a654-11ec-9fe7-8f2778788957.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> KEZI.com. &#8220;But it also could go places like the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nwaafund.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northwest Abortion Access Fund<\/a>, which is a fund that has a hotline, and patients can call into this hotline, and this nonprofit basically connects them with the travel funds or the procedure funds that they need,&#8221;\u00a0Do said.<\/p>\n<h3>Washington<\/h3>\n<p>Washington Gov.
