The post, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/PPofMI\/posts\/pfbid02gtwp8Gdt52FFPpToCDnPNR9x8npxUoPqDjCnD67vhcSXJfsu4oGCzKYKqHG7Nb97l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">evidently<\/a> has now been restored, gave a vague and inaccurate explanation of what chemical abortions are, before adding that they&#8217;re available at PPMI.<\/p>\n<p>After the post was removed, Ashlea Phenicie, a PPMI spokesperson, complained on Twitter that the abortion pill is legal, even though Facebook does not allow buying, selling, or trading pharmaceuticals. \u201cThe Supreme Court cast our nation into an abortion access crisis when they discarded half a century of precedent and opened the door for politicians to pass sweeping abortion bans,&#8221; Phenicie told <a href=\"https:\/\/michiganadvance.com\/blog\/facebook-takes-down-planned-parenthood-post-about-medication-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michigan Advance<\/a>. &#8220;Millions of Americans are now scrambling to find information about the legal status of abortion in their state and how to access care. Social media corporations like Meta are piling on to the crisis by removing content related to medication abortion and other services.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/ambulance-arrives-at-michigan-planned-parenthood-w-history-of-emergency-calls\/\">Ambulance arrives at Michigan Planned Parenthood with history of emergency calls<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Andy Stone, Facebook policy communications director, previously <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/facebook-instagram-remove-posts-advertising-abortion-pills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> that some posts promoting abortion would be removed by Meta, Facebook&#8217;s parent organization. \u201cContent that attempts to buy, sell, trade, gift, request or donate pharmaceuticals is not allowed,\u201d he said. \u201cContent that discusses the affordability and accessibility of prescription medication is allowed. We\u2019ve discovered some instances of incorrect enforcement and are correcting these.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Facebook later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/epzpz4\/facebook-restricted-a-planned-parenthood-post-telling-people-about-abortion-pills\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gave a statement<\/a> to Vice saying the post was removed by mistake.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UdygZQxS72I\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Despite PPMI&#8217;s claim that chemical abortions are safe, the abortion pill reportedly has a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/study-abortion-pill-four-times-dangerous-surgical\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four times higher risk<\/a> of complications than first trimester surgical abortions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifeprex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Serious side effects<\/a> have been documented, including uterine hemorrhaging, viral infections, sepsis, and death \u2014 along with thousands of adverse events, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifeprex\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deaths<\/a>.*<\/p>\n<p>The studies claiming the abortion pill regimen is safe have <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/media-abortion-experts-payroll-manufacturers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ties to the abortion industry<\/a>, calling into question their bias, while <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/telabortion-abortion-pill-study-increased-complications-er\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">numerous other studies<\/a> found a 6% complication rate from chemical abortions. A 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full\/10.1177\/23333928211053965\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">population-based longitudinal cohort study<\/a> also found that emergency room visits following a chemical abortion increased over 500% between 2002 and 2015 within the study population.<\/p>\n<p>Women have also called the experience <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cosmopolitan-abortion-pill-traumatic-pandemic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">traumatic<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/10-quotes-from-women-who-had-an-abortion-by-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">emotionally scarring<\/a> \u2014 yet abortion businesses like Planned Parenthood, continue to push not only for women to undergo chemical abortions, but to do so at home without medical supervision and without any testing or scans beforehand. Women deserve to know the potential risks of such a procedure, and the truth about what abortion is and what it does.<\/p>\n<h6>*FDA has received reports of serious adverse events in women who took mifepristone. As of June 30, 2021, there were reports of 26 deaths of women associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death; and several cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis), including some that were fatal. The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone because of concurrent use of other drugs, other medical or surgical treatments, co-existing medical conditions, and information gaps about patient health status and clinical management of the patient.
