Louisiana’s three remaining abortion facilities have all announced that they will be closing their doors and moving out of state. The news follows the state Supreme Court’s decision last week<\/a> to allow a law protecting nearly all preborn children from abortion to take effect.<\/p>\n

Women’s Health Care Center in New Orleans, Delta Clinic of Baton Rouge, and Hope Medical Group for Women in Shreveport are all planning to exit the state. According to New Orleans Public Radio, this means that the state will be without an abortion facility for the first time<\/a> since 1974.<\/p>\n

“Following the Supreme Court decision in Dobbs and the enforcement of Louisiana abortion bans, abortion is no longer legal in Louisiana except in rare cases,” said<\/a> Amy Irvin, a spokesperson for both Women’s Health Care Center and Delta Clinic. “Due to these circumstances,\u00a0it is our intention to relocate and\u00a0are in the process of finalizing agreements in two other states that respect and value women\u2019s bodily autonomy so that we can again provide\u00a0respectful, non-judgmental, quality abortion care services.”<\/p>\n

There is no doubt that the absence of the abortion facilities in the state will protect not only the lives of preborn children, but also those of their mothers. Both Delta Clinic and Hope Medical Group made the news<\/a> last year when bloody gowns, napkins, plastic tubes, medical waste, and patient records with identifiable information were discovered in the dumpster outside both facilities. The dumpster outside Hope Medical Group also contained bloody pads with human tissue on them \u2014 potentially the remains of aborted children.<\/p>\n

Delta Clinic has also knowingly put women at risk<\/a>, committing abortions without any IV fluids in the facility. Meanwhile, Women’s Health Care Center ignored<\/a> the Governor’s 2020 order suspending all non-essential and elective surgeries during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and<\/em> injured a woman so badly during that time that she needed to be transported to the hospital via ambulance.<\/p>\n

Louisiana Right to Life published a Facebook post<\/a> inviting pro-life advocates to rejoice in the welcome news that the abortion businesses are leaving the state, but reminding their followers that the fight is far from over.<\/p>\n
