After\u00a0<\/span>describing<\/span><\/a> a North Dakota <\/span>\u201c<\/span>trigger law<\/span><\/a>\u201d<\/span> as potentially \u201cforcing patients to remain pregnant against their will\u201d and \u201cpreventing them from being able to access abortion care,\u201d the last abortion facility in the state, R<\/span>ed River Women’s Clinic,<\/span> has\u00a0<\/span>secured funding<\/span><\/a> to seamlessly continue its business <\/span>across the river<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0Moorhead, Minnesota.<\/span><\/p>\n

Fueled by the reaction to the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade<\/em> in <\/span>Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization<\/span><\/a><\/em>, over 12,000 people donated to a <\/span>GoFundMe account<\/span><\/a> providing ample resources for the abortion facility’s move. The final donation putting the business over its increased $1 million goal was $15,000 in honor of retired early childhood special education teacher, <\/span>Jane Hella,<\/span> who taught generations of children in Fargo. Apparently, she is the matriarch of a family of abortion activists.\u00a0<\/span>Her daughter-in-law also made a <\/span>donation of $2,000<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>Karen Stoker, ex-wife of Republican North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, joined the online donors with a <\/span>$5,000 gift<\/span><\/a>, alongside a single $32,000 anonymous donation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Red River Women\u2019s Clinic primarily provides abortions up to 16 weeks and has been in existence in the downtown Fargo area for 20 years. Tammi <\/span>Kromenaker, director of the clinic, <\/span>said<\/span><\/a> \u201cservices will continue\u201d across state lines with \u201cno gap in services.” It<\/span>\u00a0had <\/span>previously avoided closure<\/span><\/a> on the eve of North Dakota\u2019s trigger law taking effect when Burleigh County District Judge Bruce Romanick <\/span>granted<\/span><\/a> a temporary ban to stop enforcement of the pro-life law. North Dakota\u2019s law protecting preborn children, which contains exceptions in the cases of rape, incest, or life of the mother, is now due to take effect on <\/span>August 26, 2022<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Local<\/span> pro-lifers<\/span><\/a> have vowed to stymie efforts to open the new clinic in Moorhead and some have already started holding <\/span>prayer vigils<\/span><\/a> at the proposed site. In a statement to <\/span>Valley News Live<\/span><\/a>, Minnesota legislator and Executive Director of <\/span>PLAM Action<\/span><\/a>, Tim Miller, stated, \u201cWe are going to be peaceful and show the love of Christ toward everyone, but do not think for a second we will not be bold in our efforts. They cannot succeed in expanding abortion in Minnesota.”<\/span><\/p>\n
