A City of Columbus abortion ordinance is allocating<\/a> over $26,000 to Pro-Choice Ohio, originally founded<\/a> as a NARAL affiliate (note: the\u00a0national offices of NARAL were originally\u00a0co-founded<\/a> by eugenicists), to “examine” pregnancy resource centers and\u00a0determine whether “residents of the City of Columbus have access to medically accurate and legal reproductive health information.” The City passed the ordinance as an emergency action along with additional pro-abortion measures.<\/p>\n

The ordinance<\/a>\u00a0language claimed that “there is a need for determining if crisis pregnancy centers provide effective, accurate, and comprehensive information and services in their crisis pregnancy centers in Columbus.” The ordinance authorizes the City Clerk to “enter into a non-profit service agreement with Pro-Choice Ohio, a 501(c)(4) not for profit corporation, to examine the activities of crisis pregnancy centers. These funds will be used to conduct a study to determine if residents of the City of Columbus have access to medically accurate and legal reproductive health information.”<\/p>\n

Putting a pro-abortion group once affiliated with NARAL Pro-Choice America in charge of investigating pro-life centers is essentially the “fox guarding the henhouse,” so to speak. What kind of result is likely to come from an investigation led by a group that is in no way impartial<\/em>\u00a0on the issue of abortion? Pro-Choice Ohio’s founding group, NARAL, has attempted<\/a> for many<\/a> years to shut down pregnancy centers (see a three-part series on this here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The City’s ordinance authorizes a $26,500 expenditure to come from the City’s\u00a0Neighborhood Initiatives subfund. The proposal was passed as “an emergency measure” and is slated to take effect and be in force after “approval by the Mayor, or ten days after passage if the Mayor neither approves nor vetoes the same.”<\/p>\n
