The report points out reasons why women had abortions.\u00a0In 2021, by far the most common reason given was that the woman \u201c[did] not want children at this time.\u201d Eighty-four percent of women who responded gave this reason for their abortions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fox-poll-abortion-banned-15-weeks\/\">poll<\/a>\u00a0from January 2022 summarized by Live Action News, &#8220;54% of voters polled said abortion should be illegal at all or most of the time, and 43% percent said it should be illegal except in cases of rape.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less than 1% of Minnesota abortions in 2021 and 2020 were committed because the mother was a victim of \u00a0rape or incest, and no abortions were reported either year to save the life of the mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here is the breakdown of Minnesota&#8217;s other statistics. The numbers don\u2019t add up to 100% because some women gave more than one reason. Of the 65% polled who answered the question:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">84% of abortions were committed because the woman \u201cdoes not want children at this time\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20% of abortions were committed due to economic reasons<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14.5% of abortions were committed due to the woman\u2019s emotional health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8% of abortions were committed due to the woman\u2019s physical health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2% of abortions were committed because the baby was disabled<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.6% of abortions were committed due to rape<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.4% of abortions were committed because \u201cContinued pregnancy will cause impairment of major bodily function\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.1% of abortions were committed due to incest<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no indication of the type of \u201cphysical health\u201d concern or how serious it was.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2020, as in 2021, the most common reason given for an abortion was that the woman \u201c[did] not want children at this time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">82% of abortions were committed because the woman \u201cdoes not want children at this time\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26% of abortions were committed due to economic reasons<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15% of abortions were committed due to the woman\u2019s emotional health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">8.8% of abortions were committed due to the woman\u2019s physical health<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2.7% of abortions were committed because the baby was disabled<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.7% of abortions were committed due to rape<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.5% of abortions were committed because \u201cContinued pregnancy will cause impairment of major bodily function\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">0.1% of abortions were committed due to incest<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In that year, 36% refused to give the reason for their abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/minnesota-report-repeat-abortions\/\">Minnesota report shows alarming number of repeat abortions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2013, a <a href=\"https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1186\/1472-6874-13-29\/tables\/2\">national study<\/a> was done on the reasons women have abortions, and it presented different options, breaking down the numbers in more detail. However, it also documented very few abortions from rape or incest.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2013, the reasons were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">40% aborted due to financial problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">36% aborted because it was \u201cnot the right time for a baby.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">31% aborted for reasons relating to their partner, including 9% who said the relationship was \u201cbad, poor, or new,\u201d 8% who didn\u2019t want to be a single mother, 8% because the partner wasn\u2019t supportive, and 3% because the partner didn\u2019t want the baby. Three percent said their partner was abusive.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">29% aborted to focus on the children they already had.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20% said having the child would interfere with future opportunities, including 14% who said the baby would interfere with their education and 7% who said the baby would interfere with their career.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">19% were not emotionally prepared to have a child or another child.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">6% were concerned for their own health.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5% thought the baby might be disabled or have a health problem.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">12% wanted \u201ca better life for the baby that she could not provide.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7% said they were not mature enough for a child.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5% aborted due to influence by family or friends.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4% said they didn\u2019t want to place the child for adoption and didn\u2019t want the baby.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All other reasons combined were 1.2% of the total. Somewhere in that 1.2% were the percentages for rape and incest.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Considering the 54% statistic cited above, if the Minnesota statistics hold true for the rest of the country, over half of the public opposes most abortions taking place today. Even if cases of physical health problems and the babies\u2019 disabilities are added to the exceptions supported by some, over 85% of abortions would be opposed by most of the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the political beliefs expressed in the poll hold true, the majority of the country feels that only a small percentage of abortions taking place today should be legal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Minnesota has released its report on abortion in the state in 2020 and 2021.
