Last month, Planned Parenthood announced its plans to\u00a0stop committing abortions<\/a> in Wisconsin in preparation for the overturning of Roe v. Wade<\/em>. Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers is trying to overturn an 1849 law in the state which protects preborn children, but in the meantime, Planned Parenthood has come up with a solution: commit abortions on both sides of the Wisconsin-Illinois border.<\/p>\n

The Associated Press reported<\/a> that Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) is teaming up with Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin (PPWI) to commit abortions in both states. Women from Wisconsin will travel to Illinois, where the abortion procedure will be committed. The women will then travel back to Wisconsin for recovery. The women will likely be sent to the Planned Parenthood facility in Waukegan, which is just south of the Wisconsin border.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Welch, president and CEO of PPIL, said<\/a> that the Waukegan facility was opened specifically for this reason. \u201cBecause abortion is safe and legal in Illinois, we are now an oasis for care, as millions of patients are stranded in a vast abortion desert, including Wisconsin residents,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Wisconsin abortionists with Planned Parenthood are also obtaining licenses to practice medicine in Illinois, so they can commit abortions across state lines. \u201cThe majority of the team in Wisconsin providing abortion care have stepped up to travel to Illinois to serve that patient need,\u201d Kristen Schultz, chief strategy and operations officer at Planned Parenthood of Illinois, said in a news conference.<\/p>\n

One example, cited in the Chicago Tribune<\/a>, involved a single mother who had twins and wanted an abortion \u2014 but the appointment was cancelled after Roe<\/em> was overturned. So Planned Parenthood rescheduled her appointment for several days later in Illinois, and paid for her transportation and gas money, as well as for the actual abortion to be committed.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that patient got the care she needed,\u201d Welch said. \u201cSadly, this story is not unique. We\u2019ve seen a tremendous increase in patients coming from Wisconsin to all Illinois Planned Parenthood health centers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yet Planned Parenthood could have helped this woman obtain resources and support to help her choose life \u2014 most women choose abortion because, as in the case of this woman, they already have children and fear the financial stress that comes with raising another child. But instead of giving this woman more options, Planned Parenthood’s chief concern was ensuring her abortion. If a woman keeps her child, Planned Parenthood does not financially benefit.<\/p>\n

“It’s no surprise that Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and Illinois are partnering to bring more women to Illinois so the abortion giant can profit from the deaths of their children,” said Illinois Right to Life in a statement, criticizing the abortion giant for again prioritizing abortion instead of providing legitimate health care and support to women.<\/p>\n

Eric Scheidler, executive director of the Pro-Life Action League, also noted that Illinois is becoming an “abortion mecca,” saying<\/a>, \u201cThe overturning of Roe v. Wade has turned Illinois into ground zero in the fight to protect unborn children.”<\/p>\n
