Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/span><\/a>\u00a0overturned the past decisions of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> and <em>Planned Parenthood v. Casey<\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on June 24. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The median results of the same question asked in a NPR\/PBS Marist poll in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/NPR_PBS-NewsHour_Marist-Poll_USA-NOS-and-Tables_202205161257.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">May<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/NPR_PBS-NewsHour_Marist-Poll_USA-NOS-and-Tables_202206261035.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">June<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 2022 show a shift toward pro-life sentiment. The June poll was conducted nationally with 941 adults from June 24 to June 25, 2022, just after the <em>Dobbs<\/em> ruling was issued; the<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> May poll was weeks earlier but followed the leaked Supreme Court draft indicating the outcome of the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The question in both polls asked adults nationally, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do you think of yourself as mostly: Supporting abortion rights, Opposing abortion rights, or as Unsure.\u201d On its face, support for abortion rights fell from 61% to 55%, a gap of 6 percentage points. Accordingly, the responses \u201copposing abortion rights\u201d and \u201cunsure\u201d increased collectively by five percentage points. And while the results for opposition and uncertainty between the two polls were within their margins of error, the decreased \u201csupport for abortion\u201d median numbers were notable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/maristpoll.marist.edu\/polls\/npr-pbs-newshour-marist-national-poll-the-overturning-of-roe-v-wade-june-2022\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">news sources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have focused on the other results of the June poll, which point to a more invigorated pro-abortion base for Democrats and less esteem for the Supreme Court. This <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2022\/07\/what-polls-tell-us-about-dobbs-and-the-midterms.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dobbs effect<\/span><\/a>,<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0it is argued, would increase Democrats\u2019 chances of success in midterm elections. And while important, pundits agree that any \u201cDobbs effect\u201d in relation to the midterms is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2022\/07\/what-polls-tell-us-about-dobbs-and-the-midterms.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">speculation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is not likely to matter past this year\u2019s election cycle, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/harvardharrispoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/HHP_June2022_KeyResults.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if at all<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/faulty-poll-mislead-abortion-restrictions\/\">Polling proves that when the public learns about abortion, they support restrictions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the statistical gains and losses on current political questions are fleeting, a slight but fundamental shift of the underlying philosophical issue on \u201cabortion rights\u201d could become ground-shifting and is worth cautious optimism. More people questioning and changing their minds on abortion should be a hopeful sign to pro-lifers across America.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/harvardharrispoll.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/HHP_June2022_KeyResults.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">poll<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> commissioned by Harvard CAPS and The Harris Poll since the release of the Dobbs decision indicates that a plurality of voting Americans (44%) support abortion laws being regulated by the state over Supreme Court Justices (24%) though support for overall federal jurisdiction of abortion is still high. This is good news for the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision since the Supreme Court basically found no justification for the Court&#8217;s regulation of abortion in the U.S. Constitution \u2014 a fundamental construct of Roe.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One thing in common among recent polling is that America\u2019s current abortion climate is complicated, with views on the regulation of abortion <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/blog\/fixgov\/2022\/06\/24\/roe-v-wade-overturned-despite-public-opinion\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">varied<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on how the poll questions are phrased and what combinations of legal restrictions are presented. Regardless of any poll results, pro-lifers have a new opportunity with the <em>Dobbs<\/em> decision for a renewed discussion of abortion, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">what abortion really is<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a new chance for people to question abortion and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/future\/article\/20180622-the-surprising-reason-people-change-their-minds\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rethink<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> their long-held positions in favor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b><i>\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/i><\/b><\/a><b><i>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fewer people identify as \u201csupporting abortion rights\u201d since the Supreme Court decision of Dobbs v.
