It aims to \u201chelp young people of all genders and sexual identities understand this important part of their life\u201d and to provide \u201csex education that&#8217;s based in empowerment and information, rather than shame, fear, and judgment.\u201d Among the topics included in the workshop are \u201c[s]exual anatomy for pleasure,\u201d \u201c[k]inds of solo and partnered sexual activities,\u201d and \u201c[c]onsent and communication.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop is targeted at kids as young as <em>nine<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cUncringe Academy\u201d is being held at a sex shop called Wink Wink.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Wink Wink is also owned and operated by area school board director, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsap.org\/training\/facilitator\/jenn-mason?language=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jenn Mason<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcsap.org\/training\/facilitator\/jenn-mason?language=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">describes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the store as \u201cunapologetically political, <strong>focusing on sexual pleasure as a social justice issue<\/strong>\u201d (emphasis added).\u00a0The store\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/winkwinkboutique.com\/pages\/about\">website<\/a> states: \u201cThere is no law or store policy that sets an age limit for our customers.\u201d In other words, minors are welcome at the sex shop.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mason was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Jenn_Mason\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elected<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the school board in November of 2017. Her current term as board director runs until 2025. Neither her original campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=8wPqW25y0ws\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">video<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> nor her <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/about\/school-board\/meet-the-board\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">profile<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the school board website mention her ownership of an all-ages sex shop.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/selling-sex-children-groomed-early-sexual-activity\/\">Selling Sex in Schools: How our children are being groomed for early sexual activity<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/mynorthwest.com\/3539919\/rantz-school-board-director-sex-classes-shop-jenn-mason\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">email<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to radio talk show host Jason Rantz, Mason defended her decision to offer explicit instruction to nine-year-olds, stating:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The class for 9 to 12 year olds is an introduction to topics related to relationships, puberty, bodies, and sexuality. We focus on what makes healthy vs. unhealthy friendships and romantic relationships, the science of how puberty works, consent and personal boundaries, defining \u2018sex\u2019, and discussing why people may or may not choose to engage in sexual activities. This course includes understanding the basics of sexual anatomy, including the names and function of body parts related to reproduction and pleasure.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mason repeatedly mentions consent as a topic of instruction for the 9-12 year-old cohort, however, this age group is neither legally nor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3621648\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">psychologically<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stopitnow.org\/ohc-content\/why-permission-from-a-child-or-underage-teen-doesnt-count\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capable<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of consenting to sexual activity. The age of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/willdefendwa.com\/age-of-consent-in-washington-and-statutory-rape-laws\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">consent<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the state of Washington is 16. Furthermore, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/4929170\/inside-teen-teenage-brain\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mainstream<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> science has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23998676\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">established<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for higher-level decision-making, planning, and self-control, does not <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/mind-and-mood\/the-adolescent-brain-beyond-raging-hormones\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mature<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> until an individual reaches their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.duke.edu\/apep\/module-3-alcohol-cell-suicide-and-the-adolescent-brain\/content-brain-maturation-is-complete-at-about-24-years-of-age\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">early 20s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Age-of-consent laws exist, in part, to protect young people from their own neurological immaturity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mason was also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cascadiadaily.com\/news\/2022\/jun\/24\/bellingham-responds-to-the-reversal-of-roe\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">quoted<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cascadia Daily News<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dobbs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> decision overturned <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v.
