Wade<\/em>, New Mexico \u2014 a state with some of the least restrictive abortion laws in the country \u2014 took steps last week to become a destination for women seeking abortion by signing an executive order related to abortion access in the state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> is overturned, the issue of abortion is now back with the states. Some states have what are known as \u201ctrigger laws\u201d that made the homicide of preborn children illegal or significantly limited as soon as <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> was overturned. In response, other states are attempting to become safe havens for abortion seekers. One of those states is New Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The state\u2019s new <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.krqe.com\/news\/new-mexico\/new-mexico-governor-to-sign-executive-order-on-abortion-access\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">executive order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> directs state employees to not aid in any civil or criminal investigations initiated by another state related to abortions that are legal in New Mexico. It also protects the licenses of abortionists who offer abortions that are legal in New Mexico but not in another state. It also limits interstate extradition for abortion-related issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/texas-ministers-fly-poor-women-new-mexico\/\">Texas ministers fly 40 poor women monthly to New Mexico for abortions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt means we will not cooperate for any criminalization or attempt at removing a license, or holding accountable a provider here who might be under national license or regional license [in respects to abortion],\u201d New Mexico\u2019s Gov. Lujan Grisham <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.krqe.com\/news\/new-mexico\/new-mexico-governor-to-sign-executive-order-on-abortion-access\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Monday. \u201cI will not be executing, if there were any, warrants or extradition for any provider related to this issue.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to the executive order, Gov. Grisham is supporting the expansion of abortion providers in the state and is even considering possible financial incentives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To meet the anticipated increase of abortion seekers in the state, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lcsun-news.com\/story\/news\/2022\/06\/30\/roe-v-wade-decision-planned-parenthood-seeking-expansion-new-mexico\/65365398007\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">announced<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> plans to expand its presence in the state. Currently, there are three Planned Parenthood locations in the state, which typically offer the abortion pill. There is only one location in Albuquerque offering surgical abortions. That may change, however, with Planned Parenthood\u2019s expansion of services. In addition, the &#8220;Pink House&#8221; \u2014 Mississippi&#8217;s sole abortion facility \u2014 has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/mississippi-pink-house-abortion-relocate-new-mexico\/\">announced its plans<\/a> to relocate to Las Cruces, New Mexico.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In New Mexico, abortion is legal through all nine months of pregnancy. In 2021, the governor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-mexico-conscience-legal-abortion-birth\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed a bill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> repealing the state\u2019s decades-old law outlawing abortion except in certain circumstances. The state has no major restrictions on abortion \u2014 not even waiting periods or mandated parental involvement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the overturning of <em>Roe v.
