UPDATE, 7\/19\/22:<\/strong> The former owner of Jackson Women’s Health Organization, known as the “Pink House in Mississippi, has said that the building is sold and the facility won’t open in Mississippi \u2014 even if it’s legal to do so.<\/p>\n

Diane Derzis told the Associated Press<\/a> that people have been asking her to reopen the facility, but she said she won’t. Additionally, she said she doesn’t even think it will be used as a medical facility at all by the new owner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t ask because I really didn\u2019t care,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great building.\u201d<\/p>\n

7\/6\/22:<\/strong> Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization (JWHO), also known as the \u201cPink House,\u201d is the last abortion business in Mississippi and was the facility involved in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization<\/em> Supreme Court case, in which the Court overturned Roe v. Wade. Since that day, June 24, the “Pink House” has made plans to shut down and move its business to Las Cruces, New Mexico. New Mexico currently has zero<\/strong> restrictions<\/a> on abortion.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shannon Brewer, JWHO\u2019s executive director, told\u00a0<\/span>KTSM 9 News<\/span><\/a> that since the Texas enacted its Heartbeat Act, protecting preborn children after a heartbeat is detected (around six weeks), JWHO has seen an increase in patients. Since Roe v. Wade<\/em> was overturned, the facility has been trying to squeeze patients in wherever it can before Mississippi’s law goes into effect. \u201cWhen the Supreme Court\u2019s decision came down last week, we have been trying to see patients every single day and our patient load has almost doubled in these few days trying to see patients up until the last day,\u201d said Brewer.<\/span><\/p>\n

She also shared the facility\u2019s plans to move several states away to New Mexico. Las Cruces is currently the home of one abortion facility that only offers the abortion pill up to 10 weeks. There is another similar facility in Santa Teresa, New Mexico.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brewer explained, \u201cReasons for picking Las Cruces is because we knew that we anticipate that a lot of patients are going to need surgical procedures also and our plans are to do medical [abortion pill] procedures, surgical procedures, family planning, birth control.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Brewer, Las Cruces is also close to an airport, which will allow people from out of state to easily access the new facility. \u201cPeople don\u2019t realize that a lot of women have never left the state where they live, a lot of people have never been on a flight to go anywhere a lot of people they\u2019ve never booked a flight to go out of town to do things and that\u2019s a scary thing so we were trying to be somewhere where it wouldn\u2019t be hard for them to get to us if they need to,\u201d<\/span> she said<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Governor of New Mexico recently signed an executive order<\/a> that will not prosecute out-of-state women who seek abortions in New Mexico, or prosecute abortionists who kill these women’s preborn children.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Brewer is planning for the Las Cruces clinic to open in July.<\/span><\/p>\n

As previously <\/span>reported by Live Action News<\/span><\/a>, post-abortive women from all over the country traveled to the \u201cPink House\u201d in April to share their abortion stories as patients entered the facility and to pray for the closure of the abortion facility. That day, four babies were spared from abortion, and one abortion worker quit. <\/span><\/p>\n

While it is disappointing that JWHO will be relocating, this group of women, along with many others, are celebrating the closure of the last abortion business in Mississippi.<\/span><\/p>\n
