An annual event hosted by Athl\u00e9tica Vaticana, a sports organization sponsored by Vatican City and the city-state’s only official sports team, paired together Olympic athletes with people from other marginalized, overlooked, or vulnerable populations.<\/p>\n

The “We Run Together” event took place<\/a> for the second year on May 24, pairing Olympians with people with Down syndrome<\/a> and autism, migrants, refugees, prisoners, and survivors of trafficking. Additionally, this year’s event included diplomats and ambassadors to Vatican City, with the goal of expressing “a message of brotherhood and peace.”<\/p>\n

During the event, non-competitive athletic relays took place, where the Olympians handed off batons in “a concrete sign of fraternity.\u201d<\/p>\n
