(Pregnancy Help News<\/a>) — When Cole found out his girlfriend Zayda was pregnant, he really didn’t know what to think.<\/p>\n

Zayda was 14, at the time, Cole was 15.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were pretty young,\u201d Cole said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was very scared,\u201d he said. \u201cI didn’t know what I was gonna do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cole told\u00a0Pregnancy Help News<\/em>\u00a0it was he who brought the prospect of abortion to the table because he thought that it was their only option, since he didn\u2019t think they\u2019d be able to raise a child at their age.<\/p>\n

But then they found the\u00a0Reliance Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Zayda told him it was a good idea to visit the pregnancy help medical clinic for assistance, he said, but he dug in and said no at first.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then by the time we got there \u2026 and then just how helpful that they were,\u201d Cole said, \u201cand they offered free ultrasounds and they helped us with everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seeing the ultrasound image of baby Delia Jo was the moment he fully grasped the reality of life for his unborn daughter.<\/p>\n

Zayda was 10 weeks along, and Delia\u2019s arms, legs, and heartbeat were evident.<\/p>\n

The fear and apprehension of being parents clouded out the realization of the life at hand at first, Cole said, but the ultrasound was a defining moment, bringing the truth home.<\/p>\n

\u201cI realized that I created a human then, you know?\u201d he said, \u201cAnd I felt like keeping her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI wasn’t really in that reality that I had created a child,\u201d Cole said, \u201cand it just felt like I could just have it all erased away if we got the abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then after the heartbeat, we were both firm on not getting the abortion, he said.<\/p>\n

The voice of the father in an unplanned pregnancy situation is often absent for varied reasons. Pregnancy help organizations frequently provide fatherhood and parenting classes, an invaluable service that seeks to foster families and lives in all situations.<\/p>\n

With the help and support of the Reliance Center Zayda gave birth to Delia, now two.<\/p>\n

Cole recalls being in the hospital when his daughter was born, and the support provided by the Reliance Center.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had no idea what babies drink or eat, or diapers, at all,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they supplied literally everything we needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had no idea what we were doing,\u201d Cole said, \u201cand they guided us through all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Zayda and Cole are busy high school students. They\u2019ve taken part in mentoring services at the Reliance Center as much as their schedules have allowed. Reliance Center founder Heather Lawless said Zayda and Cole would come to the center whenever they needed someone to talk to or needed some help.<\/p>\n

Their relationship remains in flux as they work through being young parents.<\/p>\n

Heartbeat International is the largest network of pregnancy help organizations in the U.S. Babies Go to Congress invites Members of Congress to meet with moms and their babies, and the pregnancy help organizations that served them. The interactions are key in raising awareness for pregnancy help and conveying the fact that pregnancy help centers are good for America to federal lawmakers.<\/p>\n

Cole accompanied Zayda, Delia Jo, and the Reliance Center team to Washington D.C. to be present behind the scenes for Zayda, providing support.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s come a long way from the mindset of thinking abortion was the answer, thinking that raising a child at their age could not be done, and from the denial early in Zayda\u2019s pregnancy that Delia Jo was not who she was.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd now, she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us,\u201d Cole told\u00a0Pregnancy Help News<\/em>. \u201cI mean, 110% I’ve matured and I’m not the same person I was at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The two are committed to co-parenting no matter what.<\/p>\n

Taking the step to seek help from the Reliance Center, to choose life, and to be his daughter\u2019s dad is Cole\u2019s effort to thwart brokenness for Delia Jo.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy parents were not together when I was a kid,\u201d he said, \u201cand I want her to have that (both parents).\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked what he would say to a friend who was in his same situation, finding oneself a father at a young age, scared and unsure of what to do, Cole is quick to answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not the end of the world at all,\u201d he said. \u201cIt’s more the start of one.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean, it’s not the end of the world at all. You know?\u201d he said. \u201cIf you could find someone that can help you and guide you through it, like Heather did for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had no idea what we were doing and how we were gonna do it,\u201d Cole said. \u201cAnd then by the time that Heather helped us through everything, it was the best decision we ever made.\u201d<\/p>\n

He cautions against making a pregnancy decision feeling rushed or pressured.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust think things through and think what’s best for the kid and think what’s best for you guys, you know?\u201d he told\u00a0Pregnancy Help News<\/em>. \u201cI mean, if we would’ve gone ahead with the abortion, I think my life would’ve been a lot different. I don’t think it would’ve been as happy as it is.<\/p>\n

And on the question of how he likes being a father?<\/p>\n

\u201cA hundred percent wouldn\u2019t trade anything for it,\u201d Cole said. \u201cI love this kid more than anything, she is my favorite.\u201d<\/p>\n
