This extends their <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lyft-uber-oppose-heartbeat-texas-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">current policy<\/a> which covers the legal fees of drivers in Texas who could face litigation under that state&#8217;s law. The move comes after Oklahoma lawmakers passed the new legislation, which mimics that of Texas and protects preborn children from abortion after a preborn child&#8217;s heartbeat is detected. The bill is awaiting signature from Governor Kevin Stitt, who is expected to sign it this week. It will go into effect immediately.<\/p>\n<p>According to the terms of the Heartbeat Act, those who aid or abet in anyone procuring an illegal abortion may be held liable, including Lyft or Uber drivers who drive a woman to an abortion facility. These violators may be sued for $10,000 \u2014 fees which the ridesharing rivals both say they are happy to pay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike in TX, we intend to cover all legal fees for any driver sued under this law while they\u2019re driving,\u201d an Uber spokesman confirmed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/30\/lyft-will-cover-legal-fees-for-drivers-sued-under-oklahoma-abortion-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lyft-uber-oppose-heartbeat-texas-planned-parenthood\/\">Lyft and Uber oppose Texas Heartbeat Act, as Lyft pledges $1M to Planned Parenthood<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Likewise, Lyft CEO Logan Green confirmed his company&#8217;s new policy in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/logangreen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweet<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cWomen\u2019s access to healthcare is under attack again, this time in Oklahoma,\u201d he wrote. \u201cLyft drivers are once again caught in the middle just for getting people where they need to go. We believe transportation shouldn\u2019t be a barrier to accessing healthcare and it\u2019s our duty to support both our rider and driver communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-267270\" src=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2022-05-02.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"622\" srcset=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2022-05-02.png 603w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2022-05-02-291x300.png 291w, https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2022-05-02-500x516.png 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Green also announced that his company plans to create a &#8220;safe state&#8221; program to help cover the cost of travel for women who want an abortion, and says that employees of his company who want to travel more than 100 miles to get an abortion due to &#8220;cruel laws&#8221; will have their travel costs covered. Lyft has already firmly established itself as a pro-abortion company, pledging <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/lyft-uber-oppose-heartbeat-texas-planned-parenthood\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one million dollars<\/a> to Planned Parenthood after the passage of the Texas Heartbeat Act while also asking its drivers to donate monetarily to the abortion giant.<\/p>\n<p>Coverage of abortion-related travel expenses is becoming a trend with companies who are publicly taking a pro-abortion stance.
