Wade<\/em> Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion across the nation was decided in 1973. Abortion is the homicide of a preborn child in the womb, carried out in an extremely violent manner. The most recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/us-abortion-rate-lowest-roe-v-wade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published data<\/a>\u00a0on abortion numbers by Guttmacher is from 2017, where the Institute recorded\u00a0<strong>862,320<\/strong>\u00a0abortions that year, or 2,363 every day. But since 1973, the number of human beings killed by legal abortion in the U.S. amounts to an <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/latest-estimates-63-million-aborted-since-roe\/\">estimated<\/a>\u00a0<strong><em>63,500,000<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While data on abortion before the early 1970s <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-numbers-today-before-roe-v-wade\/\">may be overstated<\/a> and is not considered reliable, it was in\u00a01969 that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began an abortion surveillance branch to document the number and characteristics of legally-obtained abortions. Planned Parenthood\u2019s former \u201cspecial affiliate\u201d and research arm, the Guttmacher Institute, did not publish abortion data until 1973. This likely\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-sales-300m-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grosses<\/a> the industry an estimated $300 million each year.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reported deaths from legal abortion<\/b><\/p>\n<p>An abortion-related death is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/ss\/pdfs\/ss7009a1-H.pdf\">defined<\/a> by the CDC as \u201ca death resulting from a direct complication of an abortion (legal or illegal), an indirect complication caused by a chain of events initiated by an abortion, or an aggravation of a preexisting condition by the physiologic or psychologic effects of abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cdc-data-abortion-numbers-increasing-pill\/\">CDC<\/a> notes that between 1998 and 2018, eight areas in the U.S. did not report abortion data on a yearly basis,\u00a0those that did report recorded\u00a0nearly <b>450<\/b> women&#8217;s deaths from <em>legal<\/em> abortion between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/mmwr\/volumes\/70\/ss\/ss7009a1.htm#T15_down\">1973 and 2018<\/a> with additional amounts reportedly killed in\u00a0<i>illegal <\/i>abortions. The CDC has not published abortion-related deaths for <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/cdc-data-abortion-numbers-increasing-pill\/\">2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Worldwide abortion totals<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Many countries do not have reliable abortion data, and not all countries have fully decriminalized abortion.\u00a0Those that have decriminalized it may allow abortion at varying times and for various reasons.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/new-study-mississippis-15-week-limit-on-abortion-in-the-mainstream-of-european-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 review<\/a> of European countries by the Charlotte Lozier Institute (CLI) found that\u00a0<i>47\u00a0out\u00a0of 50 <\/i>European nations limit elective abortion\u00a0prior\u00a0to 15 weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Five (5) European countries limit elective abortion to 10 weeks\u2019 gestation: Croatia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, and Turkey.<\/li>\n<li>27 European countries limit elective abortion to 12 weeks\u2019 gestation: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Moldova, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland, and Ukraine.<\/li>\n<li>Two (2) European countries limit elective abortion between 12 and 14 weeks\u2019 gestation:\u00a0Austria (90 days, or 3 months), and Italy (90 days).<\/li>\n<li>Five (5) European countries limit elective abortion to 14 weeks\u2019 gestation:\u00a0Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Romania, and Spain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In 1999, Guttmacher claimed, &#8220;About 26 million women have legal abortions each year, and 20 million have abortions in countries were abortion is restricted or prohibited by law.&#8221;\u00a0Today,\u00a0Guttmacher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/fact-sheet\/induced-abortion-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">claims<\/a>\u00a0(and the World Health Organization (WHO) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agrees<\/a>) that <strong>73 million<\/strong> babies are killed by abortion worldwide per year.<\/p>\n<p>Each abortion violently ends the life of a developing human person \u2014 and sometimes ends a mother&#8217;s life as well. A <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/supreme-court-overturn-roe-leaked-opinion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">leaked draft opinion<\/a> penned by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito may indicate that the Court is positioned to overturn <em>Roe v.
