This follows a similar trend set in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-laws-enacted-2021-triple-digits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021<\/a>,\u00a0when a staggering amount of pro-life legislation was introduced and passed \u2014 so much so, that the abortion industry <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/2021-worst-year-abortion-rights-half-century\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">described<\/a>\u00a0it as the \u201cWorst Year for Abortion Rights in Almost Half a Century.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guttmacher.org\/article\/2022\/03\/2022-state-legislative-sessions-abortion-bans-and-restrictions-medication-abortion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">released<\/a> by the Guttmacher Institute, 536 pro-life legislative measures have been introduced in 42 states in 2022, as of\u00a0April 14. The former &#8220;special affiliate&#8221; of Planned Parenthood also claimed that 28 pro-life proposals have thus far passed at least one legislative chamber in 11 states, with 33 pro-life laws enacted in nine states, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/arizona-house-abortions-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a> (2), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/florida-desantis-restricting-abortion-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a> (1), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/idaho-protect-preborn-heartbeat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Idaho<\/a> (1), Indiana (2), Kentucky (19), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/oklahoma-protecting-preborn-children-heads-governor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oklahoma<\/a> (1), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/south-dakota-pro-life-bills-law\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Dakota<\/a> (5), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/west-virginia-governor-law-preborn-disabilities-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Virginia<\/a> (1) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wyomings-ban-most-abortions-roe-overturned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wyoming<\/a> (1).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abortion bans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even before the US Supreme Court rules on Mississippi\u2019s 15-week abortion ban in\u00a0<em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/em>\u00a0by the end of June, anti-abortion policymakers are banking on the Court\u2019s 6\u20133 anti-abortion majority to weaken or outright overturn\u00a0<em>Roe<\/em>. They are preemptively flooding statehouses with restrictive bills in hopes that federal protections for abortion rights will soon be gone,&#8221; Guttmacher wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The pro-abortion organization claims that 86 &#8220;abortion bans&#8221; have been proposed in 31 states. They claim five of these have passed at least one legislative chamber in three states \u2014\u00a0Kentucky (1), Oklahoma (3) and West Virginia (1) \u2014 while six measures have already been enacted in Arizona (1), Florida (1), Idaho (1), Kentucky (1), Oklahoma (1) and Wyoming (1).<\/p>\n<p>These include six pro-life bills prohibiting abortions at 15 weeks of pregnancy introduced in four states. Measures limiting abortion at 15 weeks have already been signed into law by pro-life governors in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/arizona-house-abortions-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/florida-desantis-restricting-abortion-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Florida<\/a>. In Kentucky, pro-life lawmakers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kentucky-abortion-lawmakers-override-veto-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">overrode<\/a> a veto by pro-abortion Governor Andy Beshear, enacting <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kentucky-house-passes-pro-life-omnibus-bill-aims-restrict-abortion-pill\/\">sweeping abortion regulations<\/a>\u00a0in the state, including a limit on abortions past 15 weeks.\u00a0A 15-week abortion restriction has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/w-va-house-of-delegates-passes-bill-that-would-ban-abortion-after-15-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a>\u00a0and passed by one legislative chamber in West Virginia.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/22rs\/hb3.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 3<\/a>\u00a0made <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kentucky-abortion-lawmakers-override-veto-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kentucky<\/a> the first U.S. state without legal abortion access since the 1973 <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em> Supreme Court case, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-judge-temporarily-blocks-enforcement-kentuckys-new-abortion-law-2022-04-21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to Reuters<\/a>. However, just days after the law was passed, U.S. District Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings\u00a0issued a\u00a0<a class=\"text__text__1FZLe text__dark-grey__3Ml43 text__medium__1kbOh text__large__nEccO link__underline_default__2prE_\" href=\"https:\/\/tmsnrt.rs\/3OrRFTg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">temporary restraining order<\/a>\u00a0at Planned Parenthood&#8217;s request, blocking Kentucky officials from enforcing the measure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Texas-style measures and so-called &#8216;trigger&#8217; bans<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So far in 2022, 19 pieces of pro-life legislation introduced in 13 states have been modeled after Texas&#8217; Heartbeat Act (SB 8), which enables civil enforcement to protect preborn babies once a heartbeat can be detected. In <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/idaho-protect-preborn-heartbeat\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">March<\/a>, Idaho Governor Brad Little signed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legislature.idaho.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/sessioninfo\/2022\/legislation\/S1309.pdf\">Senate Bill 1309<\/a>, enacting similar legislation which contains exceptions for rape, incest, and medical emergency for the mother (<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\">read more here<\/a> about why deliberately killing a preborn child is never actually necessary).<\/p>\n<p>Guttmacher also claimed that 12 so-called\u00a0\u201ctrigger\u201d bans, which would &#8220;quickly prohibit abortion in the state&#8221; if <em>Roe<\/em> is overturned, have been introduced in nine states. In March, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wyomings-ban-most-abortions-roe-overturned\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">signed<\/a> such a bill into law, which will ban abortion in the state just five days following a decision by the Supreme Court to overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Sanctuary City ordinances are also growing in number, with five ordinances passed so far this year. This month, the city of Marquez, Texas <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/texas-marquez-48th-nation-outlaw-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">became<\/a> the\u00a048th city in the nation to pass an enforceable ordinance outlawing abortion within its city limits since the <a href=\"https:\/\/sanctuarycitiesfortheunborn.org\/sanctuary-cities-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sanctuary Cities for the Unborn<\/a> project began in 2019. According to Mark Lee Dickson, the initiative&#8217;s founder, more American cities are expected to follow suit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yGKyeEf_HHI\" width=\"640\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chemical abortion restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The so-called &#8220;medication abortion&#8221; regimen (mifepristone and misoprostol) is hardly medicine, as it has already ended the lives of nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/data-abortion-pill-ended-5-million-babies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">five million preborn babies<\/a> since its approval in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, preliminary data for 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/majority-abortions-us-done-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recently<\/a>\u00a0released by Guttmacher indicates chemical abortion is now a majority (54%) of all abortions committed in the United States. As such,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/opportunists-abortion-pill-roe-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">opportunists<\/a> are pouncing to cash in on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/industry-profits-abortion-pill-skyrocket-taxpayer-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">profits<\/a> since the Biden Administration&#8217;s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) moved to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fda-permanently-loosens-abortion-pill-safety-measure\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weaken<\/a>\u00a0important safety requirements on the abortion pill and permanently allow the pills to be shipped through the mail. This expansion of abortion has alarmed <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-lawmakers-virtual-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pro-life lawmakers<\/a>, who are now working to protect teen girls and women from unregulated abortion pill profiteers.<\/p>\n<p>According to Guttmacher,\u00a0116 restrictions on the abortion pill have been introduced in 22 states, with seven passing at least one chamber in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/georgia-senate-bill-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Georgia<\/a> (3), Missouri (2), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/south-dakota-lawmakers-approve-abortion-pill-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Dakota<\/a> (1) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wyoming-prohibit-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wyoming<\/a> (1).<\/p>\n<p>While eight states have only introduced bans on chemical abortion, Guttmacher reports that 14 abortion pill restrictions have been enacted in two states:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/kentucky-house-passes-pro-life-omnibus-bill-aims-restrict-abortion-pill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kentucky<\/a> (9) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/south-dakota-lawmakers-approve-abortion-pill-restrictions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">South Dakota<\/a> (5). Both states have enacted prohibitions on mailing abortion pills and have also restricted administration of abortion-inducing drugs to only physicians. South Dakota&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/respect\/accessibility\/599752-south-dakota-restricts-abortion-pills-but-remains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">measure<\/a> would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mylrc.sdlegislature.gov\/api\/Documents\/Bill\/234293.pdf?Year=2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">limit<\/a> the abortion pill regimen to\u00a0be used only up to nine weeks after fertilization.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to state legislation, the federal\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/117th-congress\/house-bill\/6702\/text?r=32&amp;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Safeguarding Women\u2019s and Children\u2019s Health Act of 2022<\/a>\u00a0was introduced in the <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-bill-abortion-pill-reporting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">U.S. House<\/a> this February and is intended to improve tracking of the adverse side effects associated with the abortion pill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Pro-abortion extremism also at work<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While pro-life legislation can be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-effectiveness-pro-life-laws-abortion-claims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">credited<\/a> as an effective strategy for reducing the incidence of abortion, pro-abortion forces have been busy\u00a0codifying abortion into law, introducing 231 pro-abortion measures in 29 states and the District of Columbia so far this year. According to Guttmacher, 11 of these pro-abortion measures have been enacted in\u00a0seven states, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/california-loophole-alleged-infanticide-passes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a> (1), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-governor-extreme-abortion-right\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado<\/a> (1),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-abortion-maryland-lawmakers-governors-veto-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland<\/a> (4), <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/new-jersey-murphy-abortion-birth-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Jersey<\/a> (1), New York (1), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bendbulletin.com\/health\/oregon-invests-15-million-to-prepare-for-fallout-of-idaho-anti-abortion-legislation\/article_574cb502-a980-11ec-b242-5f08635e85ae.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oregon<\/a> (1) and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/washington-state-bill-expanding-abortion-non-doctors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington<\/a> (2).<\/p>\n<p>According to legal experts, some abortion measures \u2014 such as those proposed in <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/california-loophole-alleged-infanticide-passes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">California<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/colorado-infanticide-force-abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Colorado<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/fact-checking-maryland-bill-infanticide-media\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland<\/a> \u2014 point to &#8220;pregnancy outcomes&#8221; or &#8220;perinatal death&#8221; and have the potential to create a loophole allowing for infanticide. Earlier this month, the bodies of five babies, seemingly aborted late in pregnancy and\/or possibly killed by illegal abortion methods, were obtained by pro-life activists outside a D.C. abortion facility. D.C. has no gestational limits on abortion. Experts who reviewed photos of the remains\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/infant-bodies-infanticide-attempted-abortions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suspect<\/a>\u00a0the possibility of infanticide after attempted abortions in some of the deaths. To date, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/dc-mayor-doj-investigate-infanticide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">refused<\/a> to fully investigate the deaths of these children.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s Note, 4\/22\/22: This article originally stated that four sanctuary cities had been instituted thus far in 2022.
