Wade<\/em> and the question of the legality of abortion is returned to individual states, Wyoming has prepared its answer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Wyoming legislature passed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyoleg.gov\/Legislation\/2022\/HB0092\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HB 92 \u201cAbortion prohibition-Supreme Court decision\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recently, ultimately passing by a vote of 45-14 with one abstention. Governor Mark Gordon <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/k2radio.com\/aclu-governor-gordon-signed-law-that-will-ban-abortion-entirely-in-wyoming\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed the bill into law<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on Tuesday. The law bans abortion in the state five days after the Supeme Court overturns <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe v. Wade<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The law states that abortions \u201cshall not be performed, except when necessary to preserve the woman from a serious risk of death or of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function, not including any psychological or emotional conditions.\u201d The law specifically excludes exceptions for incest or sexual assault.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The law is what\u2019s colloquially known as a \u201ctrigger law\u201d a ban on abortions waiting to be \u201ctriggered\u201d by overturning <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, the Supreme Court decision that initially legalized abortion in the country. So far, 12 other states have enacted similar laws:\u00a0 Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. Four other states (Arizona, Michigan, Wisconsin and West Virginia) have laws predating <em>Roe<\/em> that ban abortion in the state. Although the laws are unenforceable on account of their conflict with <em>Roe<\/em>, they would come back into force.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/wyoming-prohibit-abortion-pill\/\">Wyoming Senate passes bill to prohibit use of abortion pill in the state<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opponents of the measure raised concerns about its wording, and whether or not it would align with a potential future Supreme Court decision. \u201cThis is a really important issue,\u201d said Rep. Cale Case, according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wyomingnews.com\/news\/local_news\/abortion-trigger-bill-passes-heads-to-governor\/article_a0c3f512-d368-54fe-8453-2858a068b476.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wyoming Tribune Eagle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cI am particularly interested about the vagueness of this legislation, that is triggered by a Supreme Court decision \u2026 overruling a previous doctrine. That makes it seem like it is going to be black or white. [&#8230;] We don\u2019t know what that Supreme Court decision is going to say. It may have restrictions, it may have no restrictions. But we are tailoring our policy toward that, and it is a very important discussion because it affects the welfare of women and families in Wyoming.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pro-lifers on Twitter celebrated the law\u2019s passage. \u201cState after state is passing laws to protect unborn children,\u201d tweeted the Jewish Pro Life League. \u201cI hope the Supreme Court is paying attention to the fact that most Americans want to protect unborn children.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time to overturn Roe v. Wade.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"video-container\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">State after state is passing laws to protect unborn children. The activist group objected to a provision in the law directing the state Attorney General to formally acknowledge the Supreme Court decision and allow the ban to go into effect, and promised further litigation would follow its enactment. &#8220;The legislation mimics other so-called &#8216;trigger bans&#8217; across the country that will take effect automatically under specific circumstances,&#8221; a statement read, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/k2radio.com\/aclu-governor-gordon-signed-law-that-will-ban-abortion-entirely-in-wyoming\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">K2 Radio<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. &#8220;But House Bill 92 improperly assigns the executive branch the responsibility of enacting law based upon future hypothetical case outcomes and creates a codified, inflexible mandate that lacks clarity.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lozierinstitute.org\/abortion-reporting-wyoming-2020\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Charlotte Lozier Institute<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, there were 91 reported abortions in Wyoming in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If the Supreme Court overturns Roe v.
