Tour\u00e9 Neblett <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theblaze.com\/stories\/2013\/01\/25\/msnbc-host-i-thank-god-and-countryabortion-was-there-to-save-me\/\">gave<\/a> the following ode to abortion:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This week brought us the fortieth anniversary of Roe v. Wade and made me reflect on a moment from about fifteen years ago, when I was in a committed relationship with a woman who I knew was just not the one. She also knew it probably wasn\u2019t gonna work out\u2026and then she got pregnant.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Gee, it sure is a shame that the cause of pregnancy wasn\u2019t common knowledge back in the nineties. What\u2019s that, you say? It was? Oh. In that case, one would hope that at least a couple pro-choicers could take off the ideological blinders long enough to consider that <i>just maybe<\/i> Neblett\u2019s ordeal demonstrates that pro-lifers aren\u2019t completely off our rocker when we suggest it\u2019s a bad idea to introduce sex into a relationship before knowing whether it\u2019s \u201cgonna work out.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>And I was terrified. I\u2019ve always known the importance of family and building kids into strong adults, and I know I would not be who I am if not for growing up under the watchful eye of two people who loved me and loved each other. I knew that pregnant woman and I were not gonna be able to form a lasting family. She decided it was best to have an abortion, and days later she did, and in some ways that choice saved my life. I was not then smart enough or man enough to build a family or raise a child, and I only would have contributed to making a mess of three lives.<i> <\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This entire narrative hinges on the lie that there wasn\u2019t <i>already<\/i> a child present, and therefore the abortion merely prevented harm to a possibility. But the truth turns Neblett\u2019s \u201cheroism\u201d completely on its head. He <i>was<\/i> a father, and he <i>had<\/i> a son or a daughter who needed and deserved his love, care, and protection. But he decided that his plans for the future mattered more. Instead of facing his responsibility and embracing fatherhood, or at least offering to help support his girlfriend enough to deliver the baby and give him or her the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/health\/2009\/11\/adopted_kids_are_happy_healthy.html\">hope of adoption<\/a>, Neblett hid behind her decision to kill and the comforting \u201cout of sight, out of mind\u201d fantasy its legality enables.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re right about one thing, Tour\u00e9: you weren\u2019t man enough. And you still aren\u2019t.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Years after that I met another woman, married her, and after we decided to get pregnant, I went to her doctors\u2019 appointments, our doctors\u2019 appointments, with joy. It was a thrill to watch that boy grow inside her, but I must admit during that second trimester as we watched him move around on 3D sonograms, I saw how human they are at that stage and my lifelong belief in abortion rights was, let\u2019s say, jostled. It was life colliding with belief system. I had to rethink my position.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>But that rethinking apparently meant nothing, considering that the rest of the monologue is a by-the-numbers apologia, complete with the usual clich\u00e9s: \u201cunsolvable medical debate about when exactly life begins,\u201d (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/medical_testimony\/\">no there isn&#8217;t<\/a>), \u201ca woman\u2019s right to control her body\u201d (more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abort73.com\/abortion\/mothers_body\/\">biological illiteracy<\/a>), and a gratuitous \u201cmisogynistic\u201d thrown in for good measure.<\/p>\n<p>The least generic argument Neblett brings to the table is the preposterous claim that abortion somehow promotes stable families, his only supporting evidence for which is the statement that \u201cthe higher a state\u2019s abortion rate, the lower its divorce rate.\u201d But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/society\/abortion_distortions.html\">according to<\/a> FactCheck.org:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>[T]he number of divorced persons has risen from 3 percent of the adult population before Roe to 10 percent most recently. The divorce\u00a0rate (per 1,000 population) rose for several years after\u00a0Roe and\u00a0didn&#8217;t dip back\u00a0below pre-Roe levels until 1999, according to Census Bureau figures.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>What\u2019s more, in analyzing the study Neblett cites, Michael New <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/303293\/geography-abortion-shows-pro-life-progress-michael-j-new\">suggests<\/a> a cause other than abortion for the state-by-state data: \u201cthis is likely because southerners tend to marry at a younger age and have higher rates of divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than negating the objectification of women, abortion gives cads another excuse to ditch the women they use for sex. Worse, the celebratory cult surrounding it lets the cads pretend there\u2019s something to be <i>proud<\/i> <i>of<\/i> in sustaining their sleazy lifestyles with murder. But, just like <a href=\"\/news\/a-life-worth-sacrificing-salon-blogger-admits-abortion-ends-life\/\">Mary Elizabeth Williams<\/a>, Neblett may find he\u2019s been too honest for his own good.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Too honest for their own good.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":54,"featured_media":26399,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"om_disable_all_campaigns":false},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.7 -
