Here&#8217;s why she&#8217;s wrong."},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regardless of how the Supreme Court rules in\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/supreme-court-pro-life-rally-oral-arguments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dobbs v. Jackson Women\u2019s Health Organization<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the pro-life movement is not going away anytime soon, as evidenced by a recent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/2022\/01\/21\/roe-wade-abortion-march-for-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Washington Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> op-ed. While many of the article\u2019s attacks against pro-lifers are baseless, if it\u2019s true that abortion could soon be outlawed, then it\u2019s worth clearing up misconceptions that many abortion advocates appear to have about the pro-life movement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The post-<\/b><b><i>Roe <\/i>p<\/b><b>ro-life movement\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monica Hesse, a columnist for the Washington Post&#8217;s Style section, wrote of pro-lifers in the op-ed, \u201cBut once you have this thing you always wanted \u2014 state-sanctioned control over women\u2019s bodies \u2014 your work is not finished. You are responsible for the pregnant people whose futures you have changed, and for their future children, and both are going to need a lot more than your prayers.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pro-lifers want to end abortion \u2014\u00a0not to control women, but because <em>abortion kills an innocent human being<\/em>. The pro-life movement also aims to help women feel empowered to carry their pregnancies to term by connecting them to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-slamming-pregnancy-centers-lacking-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resources<\/span><\/a> they need<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In 2019 alone, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/report-pregnancy-centers-2-million-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pregnancy centers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> served nearly two million clients, providing a bevy of free services to women and children. Hesse conveniently ignored actions like this which demonstrate the care pro-lifers have for women and children \u2014 care that will not cease (and likely will only increase) should abortion be outlawed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Yes, pro-lifers do care about women\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Describing a hypothetical scenario where a pro-lifer is forced to have a \u201ctalk\u201d with his or her pregnant 15-year-old daughter in a post-<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Roe <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">era, the op-ed inaccurately portrayed how the majority of pro-lifers feel about abortion-minded women.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe [talk] where she\u2019s sobbing and terrified and you begin to fully realize that accidental pregnancies don\u2019t happen to bad people, they happen to all kinds of people, and maybe not every accident needs to be punished with lifelong consequences,&#8221; wrote Hesse. &#8220;The one where you explain that there is no option but to live with those consequences. The one where you explain that you made sure of it.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making abortion illegal is not an attempt to punish women, but to help them avoid the negative effects of abortion on their own lives and to save the lives of their children. Women who have abortions are at an increased risk of drug use, alcohol use, and suicidal thoughts along with depression. There are a variety of reasons why a woman may find herself considering abortion, and pro-lifers know these women are deserving of support, not scorn. In fact, many pro-lifers <em>are<\/em> women who once had abortions and suffered pain and regret as a result. They now seek to spare others that pain.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-pregnancy-difference-immigrant-baby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Pro-life pregnancy resource made all the difference for this immigrant and her baby<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The op-ed reported the dangers of intimate partner violence during pregnancy and that homicide is the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths, which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pregnant-woman-shot-head-abdomen-dies-domestic-attack\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Live Action News<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has previously noted. Sarcastically, Hesse wrote that she\u2019s sure pro-lifers \u201calready got a plan for making sure the boyfriends or husbands of these people don\u2019t assault them upon learning they\u2019re expecting.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the author would likely have a hard time finding a large number of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.feministsforlife.org\/serrin-foster-testimony-on-uvva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro-lifers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who think <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-rising-number-pregnant-homicide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pregnant women<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in abusive relationships are undeserving of support and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/donate.letthemlive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">resources<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. N<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">o woman should be subjected to abuse, and any woman facing such a situation deserves help in being connected to safety. By opposing the killing of an innocent human being, pro-lifers are not forcing women to remain with abusive partners. Yes, pro-lifers do have a plan for helping abused pregnant women, and it involves connecting them with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehotline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">nonviolent solutions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that already exist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Distracting from the issue\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hesse asserted that if abortion is outlawed or severely restricted, then March for Life participants should be ready to support easy access to birth control and other efforts that will supposedly reduce the demand for abortion.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI hope that the 364 days you\u2019re not attending this march, you\u2019re marching for universal health care. Also, subsidized day care and universal preschool; I hope every Chick-fil-A sandwich will now come with a side of full-time nanny,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the article\u2019s snarky tone is apparent, the arguments put forward are worth addressing, as the piece showcases a common misunderstanding many pro-choice people have about the pro-life movement. It seems the op-ed missed the point regarding why pro-lifers focus on ending abortion by targeting it directly: If abortion is the killing of an innocent human deserving of equal rights, it makes sense for pro-lifers to prioritize ending it, not simply reducing it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition, many <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/paaunow.org\/stances-capitalism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro-lifers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> do support many other efforts in tandem with making abortion illegal. But the overall mission of the pro-life movement is to ensure the country\u2019s laws protect innocent human life from deliberate acts of violence, including the preborn.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hesse also took issue with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/prolifers-prepare-49th-annual-march-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">March for Life\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> theme this year \u2014\u00a0\u201cEquality begins in the womb\u201d \u2014\u00a0mockingly wondering whether this means pro-lifers will pursue things like racial and economic justice initiatives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOtherwise, I would think the theme would read: \u201cEquality begins in the womb, and also ends there,\u201d she wrote.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pro-lifers advocate for preborn human beings because they are a group of people whose rights were violated by the legalization of abortion, and the legal protections they once had must be restored. A person can support other causes while also saying it\u2019s wrong to kill children in the womb. Also, people are entitled to equal rights based on their human nature, not things like skin color, abilities, or their present location. If the Hesse cares about equality, then equal rights must extend to preborn humans.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Regardless of how the Supreme Court rules in\u00a0Dobbs v.
