The entire report, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/downloads.frc.org\/EF\/EF21K55.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">available to read in its entirety here,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> makes a disturbing statement when it comes to the U.S.: \u201cEven though the United States is often viewed as the antithesis of communism, it has voluntarily accepted abortion, an atrocity often used as a form of torture in communist countries. Here, although out of touch with Americans\u2019 views on abortion, American abortion laws are worse or on par with major human rights violators.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That conclusion comes after the report explains that only Canada, China, Vietnam, and North and South Korea, join the United States as the six nations in the world whose laws allow abortion at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">any<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> point through the entirety of pregnancy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report notes that this \u201cextremity\u201d in the United States\u2019 abortion permissive laws is \u201cnot only out of step with most of the world, but it also conflicts with the opinions of most U.S. citizens,\u201d as it cites an Associated Press poll which found that 65% believe abortion should be illegal in the second trimester, while a whopping 80% believe it should be illegal in the third.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other parts of the world, abortion laws vary by region and influence. Among other pertinent information the report explains in its 28 pages:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the European continent, 40 of the 52 nations actually limit abortion to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, while \u201c[f]our European nations prohibit abortion entirely, and five nations allow abortion only for special exceptions and never on an elective basis.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 52 European nations, only three allow elective abortions past the 15-week mark. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not a single nation in Europe allows for elective abortion past 24 weeks, unlike in the U.S.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mentioned in the report is Andorra, one of three countries where abortion is not allowed for any reason. &#8220;The Andorran Constitution bans abortion on the principle that the nation \u2018recognizes the right to life and fully protects it in its different phases,\u2019&#8221; says FRC, adding that in Andorra, \u201cthe unborn receive a twofold protection from abortion that is based upon their right to life and the torturous nature of abortion procedures\u201d (p. 9).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another pro-life European country is Malta. FRC explains that this country &#8220;recogniz[es] the presence of two lives and ensur[es] that the freedom of the mother does not take priority over the right to life of the child.\u201d Malta&#8217;s maternal mortality rate is only six deaths per 100,000 live births (p. 22). In the U.S., where abortion can be accessed all nine months of pregnancy, the maternal mortality rate is 17.4 deaths per 100,000 live births (p. 10). FRC says, \u201c[t]his comparison dispels the argument that access to abortion is necessary to lower the maternal mortality rate.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/biden-us-africa-savior-assistance-not-abortions\/\">Biden thinks US is world\u2019s \u2018savior,\u2019 but Africans want real assistance, not abortions<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other findings:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">African nations hold more restrictions as well, with abortion banned in nine out of 54 countries. In 41 African nations, \u201cwomen can only undergo abortions in specific circumstances and never on an elective basis.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only four African nations allow elective abortions in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No African nations allow elective abortions past 12 weeks.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One outlier is South Africa, where the Choice on Termination of Pregnancy Act, enacted in 1997, legalized first-trimester abortion on demand. Even after a woman\u2019s first trimester, this act allows abortions up until 20 weeks\u2019 gestation \u201cin cases of physical or mental health of the mother, fetal anomaly, conception as the result of rape or incest, or continuation of the pregnancy causing a social or economic burden on the woman\u201d and after 20 weeks, \u201cabortion is legal in cases of preserving the life of the mother, severe fetal anomaly, or risk of injury to the unborn child.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While the report explains that even though four of the most pro-abortion countries in the world are in Asia and the Middle East, with China, North Korea, South Korea, and Vietnam joining the U.S. in allowing elective abortion through all nine months, these nations are not typical for their regions. \u201cAside from the extreme four, only one nation out of 41 allows for elective abortion past 12 weeks, and only seven out of 41 allow for elective abortion within the first trimester,&#8221; FRC notes. &#8220;The majority of nations in this region\u201426 out of 41\u2014only allow for abortion in special circumstances and never on an elective basis.
