{"id":261764,"date":"2022-01-28T08:40:40","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T14:40:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/news\/?p=261764"},"modified":"2022-07-27T17:02:11","modified_gmt":"2022-07-27T22:02:11","slug":"south-carolina-abortion-pill-ban","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/south-carolina-abortion-pill-ban\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina legislature advances two new pro-life bills"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p>Two bills that would limit abortions in South Carolina advanced through the state legislature on Wednesday. One bill would require that all women be informed about the <a href=\"http:\/\/reverseabortionpill.com\">abortion pill reversal<\/a> process prior to undergoing a chemical abortion, while the other would outlaw abortion in the state completely should the U.S. Supreme Court overturn <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/sess124_2021-2022\/bills\/907.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 907<\/a>, the &#8220;Abortion Pill Reversal Bill,&#8221; stipulates that doctors must tell women that there is a process they can undergo to reverse the abortion pill procedure should they change their minds after taking the first pill in the abortion pill regimen. Because the abortion pill is actually a two-step process requiring pills taken over the course of 72 hours, the process has the potential to be reversed if a mother seeks a progesterone treatment after taking the first drug, mifepristone. To date, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abortionpillreversal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abortion Pill Reversal Network<\/a> says over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heartbeatinternational.org\/our-work\/apr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3,000 lives<\/a>\u00a0have been saved through abortion pill reversal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c64 to 67% of the time, the reversal is successful if taken before the second pill. So, this gives them a second chance. It gives them a chance to change their mind. So, I can&#8217;t see how anybody would want to not include this in the provision,\u201d\u00a0Executive Director of Pro-Life Charleston, Alex Palyo, told <a href=\"https:\/\/wlos.com\/news\/local\/new-abortion-legislation-debated-wednesday-could-make-south-carolina-laws-toughest-in-country-wciv\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC 13 News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/abortion-pill-reversal-hope\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Mother saves baby with abortion pill reversal: \u2018There is hope, there is help\u2019<\/em><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also advancing was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scstatehouse.gov\/sess124_2021-2022\/bills\/988.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Senate Bill 988<\/a>, the &#8220;Equal Protection for Unborn Babies Act.&#8221; Also known as the &#8220;Trigger Bill,&#8221; it would only go into effect if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns <em>Roe v. Wade,<\/em>\u00a0something which could happen when it rules on\u00a0<em>Dobbs v. Jackson Women&#8217;s Health Organization<\/em> later this year. If passed, the bill would completely ban abortion with the only exception being the life of the mother (however, deliberately ending a child&#8217;s life through abortion is <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveaction.org\/news\/pro-life-replies-abortion-never-medically-necessary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">never truly medically necessary<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Dawn Bingham, an OB\/GYN, spoke out against the bill, saying, &#8220;this legislation is actively denying a woman\u2019s future in exchange for one that is scripted for her by the state. Thus, denying her humanity and free choice to make healthcare decisions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But the bill&#8217;s sponsor, Senator Richard Cash, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wltx.com\/article\/news\/politics\/abortion-battle-continues-south-carolina-new-legislation\/101-6137642c-5848-4027-8339-49a444c12ec2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">explained<\/a>, &#8220;It is an &#8216;Equal protection for unborn babies act.&#8217; Obviously, if you don\u2019t believe an unborn baby is a human being or has constitutional rights to life, then you\u2019re probably not going to be in favor of this bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both bills now move to the general Senate Subcommittee before proceeding to the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor\u2019s Note: Visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/reverseabortionpill.com\/\">AbortionPillReversal.com<\/a>\u00a0for information on how to potentially stop the abortion pill process after it has begun.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/liveactionnewsonline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cLike\u201d Live Action News on Facebook<\/a>\u00a0for more pro-life news and commentary!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two bills that would limit abortions in South Carolina advanced through the state legislature on Wednesday.
