Progesterone, a naturally occurring pregnancy hormone, has long been used by doctors in the United States to help prevent early miscarriages for women who have already suffered at least one previous miscarriage. Now, a UK health watchdog group, The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), has begun to recommend the use of progesterone<\/a> in preventing miscarriages in women who have had at least one miscarriage or are experiencing bleeding during early pregnancy, saying it could help 8,450 more babies be carried to term and born each year in the UK.<\/p>\n

Significantly, this same hormone has also been used to help reverse the effects of mifepristone, the first drug administered in the abortion pill regimen. The abortion pill reversal (APR) protocol uses progesterone to reverse the effects of mifepristone, which works to block the woman’s natural progesterone that is nurturing the growing baby. APR is credited with saving more than 2,500 babies<\/a> from abortion; yet, pro-abortion groups are claiming<\/a> it is “dangerous and unproven.” The UK-based Center for Countering Digital Hate even successfully pressured<\/a> Google into censoring ads for the abortion pill reversal protocol.<\/p>\n

The new research on progesterone is additional evidence showing its safety and effectiveness in preventing miscarriage.<\/p>\n

“This is a very significant moment,” said Professor Arri Coomarasamy, one of the researchers at the Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research<\/a> in 2020.\u00a0“We have an intervention that works that can stop miscarriage. This gives hope to thousands of couples throughout the UK. But it’s really important to appreciate that only some miscarriages can be prevented by progesterone. There are other causes for miscarriage. We still need to study them. We need to find other effective treatment.”<\/p>\n
